    Hello all,

I recently have been using my notebook with an external connected USB keyboard. If I take the notebook out of the office and try to use it the notebook's inbuilt keyboard is malfunctioning (seems keys to ther ight hand end of the letters are not working, giving other characters or numbers instead.

Tried uninstalling the USB keyboard but no joy. Can anyone help?

Sounds like the connection is loose or the keyboard isn't registering the keys you are pressing. You might want to check with the manufacturer and see if you can get a new keyboard...they aren't hard to replace.

Sorry to hear about the trouble.

I thought it might be a settings problem rather than hardware - up until a week ago (when the external keyboard was used) the notebook keyboard was fine (notebook less than 1 year old). The notebook has not been dropped or jolted in any way so I wouldn't think connections should be an issue? Can the problem be investigated via software or troubleshooters etc.?

I don't think it could be...unless you see something wrong in the device manager. I don't think the keyboard has an actualy driver.

I can't really think of any other way of detecting the keyboard problem, unless you open the computer and see if the connection is loose.

If the laptop is just over a year old you might still have a warranty on it. Call the manufacturer and see if they will give you a new keyboard. Just replace it and see if that was the problem. :)

OK I contacted seller and their tech guy talked me thru the solution. What was happening was very simple - I had the 'Num-Lock' on with the external keyboard. When I disconnected the external keyboard the 'Num-Lock' was still on with the notebook keyboard and the letter keys at the right end of the keyboard double as a numbers set. To solve the problem all I had to do was turn off Num-Lock on the notebook keyboard using the 'Fn' key. Thanks for your help and prompt responses.

Wow...I haven't heard of that before. Guess there is a first for everything. :)
