USAA covers my laptop with a $3,000 policy - and no deductible. And it's a fraction of the cost of Safeware.

What about you? Please vote in the poll.

I'm going to have the standard warranty that comes with my notebook along with a personal article policy with State Farm. Since I'm going to be in college, I'm also going to get a lock for my closet or drawer so instead of locking my notebook to a desk or something, I can put it in something bigger and lock that.

That way, if I see someone walking out of my dorm with my dresser, I know they're trying to take my laptop. I can then procede to tackle them and safely retrieve my computer.

    Sounds like a plan.

@baddogboxer: Is that bad or good?

I figured Safeware and LoJack to be pretty common...

I guess we'll see as time goes on.

LoJack is a must have for me

I'm still deciding whether to get a cable lock or not because
+ I never leave my laptop in public unattended
+ My college roommate is someone I've known since junior high
    - My roommate's friends are doubtful people
    - If I want to go to the washroom during lecture, I'm not going to have time to lock it down before I go each time

Why not just put it in your backpack and take it with you?

Fair enough. I don't know my room mate yet, so I hope things go well.

Advice for the college people. If you are under a certain age many home owners policies (your parents) will cover your belongings in your dorm room. Make sure you have them check before you shell out for extra coverage.

Anti-theft, just because I didn't have to pay for it, manufacturer's protection plan and other: anti-virus+firewall. It's not physical protection, but data protection is just as important!

Apollo13, I wish USAA would lower my rates if I used LoJack, however, that's not how they operate.

I'm not familiar with USAA at all, sorry. I meant I didn't have to pay for LoJack because it was already included with the other protection I was getting and the package was cheaper than the other stuff a la carte. Lower price includes LoJack when higher price doesn't is pretty much free.
