I own an HP / Compaq nc6230 notebook.

I have seen remote controls that plug into the card reader slot for newer computers, and then have a controller just like one used for your TV remote (only smaller and more simple).

Does anyone know if the nc6230 can support any of these "remote controls" (either an HP/Compaq or after market brand)?

If so, please let me know as I am using my notebook as my DVD player right now and manually hitting play/stop and pause is a hassel !

    Thanks for your help

No, the nc6230 does not support the IR remotes shipped with some consumer laptops. If your model has bluetooth you could get a bluetooth remote.

I have a remote with my laptop. It comes in handy. Get a bluetooth one if you can.

No, its not. But if you do have Blutooth, as said- you can get one. If you dont have blutooth in your PC then you can always buy a USB or PCMIA Blutooth adapter for it to work.

    Thanks for the info.

I am still a bit stuck however. The notebook I have uses an Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection.

This may sound ignorant, but am I correct to say this is not Bluetooth? It also has an Infrared Port on the front of the computer (= SMSC IrCC Fast Infrared Port).......is this not what the remote would connect to, just as your TV or Stereo connects through a remote control ??

Well, you can get a Bluetooth remote if you want. As far as I know, you cant use your networking card for a remote. As far as infared, i think this is an Infared Remote, but i'd just stick with Bluetooth.
