I am trying to compare my current 17" screen at 1440x900 with 13" or 14" at 1280x800. I'm not sure how to read this table, however.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm just trying to figure out if I can get the same amount of information on the screen as I can with my monster 17" that I have now.

a resolution, regardless of the screen size will show the same amount.

    1280x800 on a 30" will show the same amount as 1280x800 on a 12"

your 17" will have more info on it then the 12/13" because of the higher res

ok, understood. So if my 17" and my 13" had the same resolution it would show the same thing, only the 17" would show it in larger text?

    1280 x 800 scares me coming from 1440x900. Hmmm.

    Thanks!

1440 x 900 @ 14.1" may be the best way forward. You will get the same information but it will be a bit smaller (but you will probably tend to sit a little closer to the smaller screen).

I am unable to find 1440x900 on a 14" screen in any retail store (for my budget anyway).

1280*800 would still be pretty reasonable on 14.1 or 13.3". It wouldn't show quite as much information but the text would be nicely readable.
