Sorry that I'm a total newbie to the subject of notebook screens.

I hear that the brightness of screens are measured in nits. How can I tell how many nits are in my Toshiba Satellite M55? I feel that it is brighter than many notebooks I've seen, but then again, I've only seen the regular models shown at retail stores and not exotic notebooks like from Sager and Asus.

So far, the brightest and best looking screen I have seen is from the Vaio FS/FE series but I hear some complain that they are too bright, so bright that the colors are washed out. Is this true?

How does one determine the quality of a screen? What notebooks have the best screens and what have the worst?

Also, does anyone know if the M50/M55 series use different screens like I know the HP DV1000s do?
