Is it really worth it to get an extra 2 year extended warranty? I'm about to buy the Asus W3j which already includes 1 year. Most of the time I'll be using around college campus... just asking for inputs on how many people actually got to use the extended warranty...

yes unless you dont take it anywhere and actually trust your pc. But being as though I dont trust pc's and I take mine everywhere, and run the risk of dropping it or damaging it somehow. I would get a waranty, or at least an accidental damag coverage

So I just Pre-ordered my very 1st laptop just a few minutes ago.
I belive that many people will say different things on this subject.

There was just a recent post about this in the Sager forum in this website and been discussed here: Extended Warranty for Sager notebook.
A Sager reseller even replied back in it with their own opinion about this subject.

I just googled "Notebook Warranty Worth it?"
And came up with this interesting article from Geeks.com:
    http://www.geek.com/htbc/laptop/wntylap.htm

So I guess take those 2 examples as you will.
I am sure some others will add in their input.

As for me, I got the full 3 yr extended Warranty AND 3 yr Accidental Damage Policy.
I am careful with my precious toys, but I have a 3 yr old at home ...

Kids and computers equal disaster. If your clumsy more disaster. Spilling things, dropping etc. all will be problematic. Parts and repair for laptops can be very expensive and difficult. (mobo, monitor etc) it could save you some serious money or at the least give you peace of mind.

ok... so the asus warranty only covers malfunctioning of hardwares... so dropping it on the ground or coffee spills is not covered by the warranty...

I say yes, simply because the last three notebooks I've had have all had something die around the year and a half mark, and if anything goes wrong on the notebook generally you have to replace the motherboard which is normally quite expensive.

Depends on exactly how much the notebook is (under $1000 notebook I wouldn't bother, over $2000 notebook I definately would, in between is open to question).

i never take chances with electronics/electrical stuff.

My previous X30 "died" on me after 3 years of warranty, and was too expensive to repair (cannot run on AC power, only run on batt).

3 years would be a safe bet

with a laptop I would get the extended warranty, most of the stuff in there is expensive. with desktop I don't bother - everything can be replaced easily, and each main component is usually cheaper than the warranty.
