Why my chinese tiny cheepo mobile/tv/radio/can brew coffee too/ phone has 5 times louder speakers than any notebook that I have ever owned???
A.It's 1/30 the size of an 11.6'' notebook.
    B.It's battery is 1/20 aprox.the size of the notebook's battery(in physical dimensions).
B.All such phones are so loud. It's not the exception.

So why don't they supply notebooks with those tiny loud speakers but instead we have to resort to all sorts of tweaks to increase(a little) the pathetic volume of our notebooks.

That's something I've always pondered. My Viliv S5 is about the same size as the Dell Streak and it sounds AWESOME. Like, you can actually hear a beat like it's producing a little bass. The awesome thing is, that each of the speakers in the S5 are smaller than my thumbnail, yet it's 3.5 times louder than my Vaio or Latitude. I have to say the speakers on my MBP have not let me down though. They're the best speakers I've heard on a notebook.

Uhm... because laptop manufacturers have to buy cheap speakers to keep costs down?

I'm guessing because they REALLY need to cheap out on netbook speakers. They aren't a big selling point on a netbook anyway. My iPod Touch's speaker is better than the ones in my friend's Acer Aspire One.

I'm glad I bought my Toshiba A300. The Harmon Kardon speakers on this thing are excellent for notebook speakers. Have pretty decent bass, considering the size of the drivers, as well. I don't use them often though, I prefer IEM's. :p

That's a bold statement, but it sad that I don't doubt it a bit. The iPod touch's speaker is atrocious. My Vaio that I mentioned above... basically if you can hear it, it's blaring and distorted. I can use my Viliv like a mini boombox.

Yes, cheaper in quality. But more expensive in price. Why? Because Chinese manufacturers don't have to pay out of the in taxes/import/fees/duties/tariffs (name them however you want).
They can just go across the street/buy from their neighboring factories not across seas.

Remember, while electronics may cost a bit here but over there they're manufacturing right next door. There's no advertising/legalities/taxes to deal with.

    Kinda sucks imo.

I believe they are cheap because manufacture probably believe users would just use headphones or plug in external speakers.

Shows you how much they know about their target market if that's true. I know a TON of people that have tried to watch movies, or more recently Blu-Ray's, on their new notebooks with a friend or someone in the car or just laying in the floor, and it's just not possible with most notebooks. Sad really.

They're decent. The speakers on the A300 have a bit more sparkle, and a bit more bass if you have the Creative stuff uninstalled on the G73. The subwoofer adds to the bass a lot, I suspect it would beat out the A300 in terms of bass if I still had Creative installed.

In terms of loudness, they both go pretty high for notebook speakers.

Considering the A300 has no subwoofer, I should be comparing just the left and right channel drivers. In that case, Toshiba wins. The G73 speakers suffice for casual gaming though.

I don't use it, so there's no point. I'm probably going to reformat to Ultimate for my professional uses soon anyway, and keep the install clean, only putting the essentials in (ATK package, drivers, etc).

I think an 8" subwoofer does the job well enough, even if it is horrendously muddy.
