    hi, if i don't move my laptop around much; would laptop's hard drive be as reliable its desktop's counterpart?

    i've stumble across an article about "laptop vs desktop" that says: if you've got a laptop; just be prepared to do more repairs. is this true? even though i plan to buy a DTR (a Qosmio) and rarely move it.

    Sure movement will cause parts to fail more than a desktop that sits in the same spot for its entire life. But you also have to consider the increased heat that these components are exposed to when compared to desktop components. This is because the entire computer is packed into a very thin case with poor ventilation (at least compared to a desktop).

    So to answer ur question, it might be true that u'll have to do more repairs than a desktop, even if u get a DRT notebook. But thats not something you can predict. Me for example Ive had a notebook that worked fine for 5 and a half years, while my desktop I had to change parts and fix a whole bunch of times in its first 2 years. Its all a matter of luck, but in the long run techincally speaking notebooks parts are less reliable than desktop parts.

    Why buy a DTR if you're only going to move it occasionally? Why not get a small form factor PC?

    the reason i wanna get a DTR is because of:
    -i wanna get the Qosmio Glossy screen;
    -i wanna laptop quiet nature (this gonna go in my bedroom, so its important);
    -i wanna get an intergrated wifi;
    -i wanna have the option of moving it around.

    i'm still considering getting a desktop instead though... but not SFF pc; its hell noisy if you were to put anything close to high performance! any recommendation for quiet pc, from ur own personal experience?

    adinu what do you mean in the long run? would it survive 5years of toturous use? (the Qosmio is not thin nor small) like frequent virus scanning and defragmentation; movie and music encoding; games, etc.
