Ausu's G50 supports dual drive, plus raid; while newer G51 series also could take dual drives, but without the support for Raid.

That said, G5x series laptop is quite large for 15 incher; it's almost a 17 inch laptop with 15 inch display.

If you don't mind hotswapping in/out the optical drive, can use an optical bay caddy to install a 2nd HDD as shown here. Means a greater choice of units.. can even for 12.1" HP 2230s, or Acer 4810T. Just need an optical drive.

Are you sure it has two HDD slots? The Toshiba M500 is using a hybrid hard disk drive with SSD. I think it has one HDD slot. To be honest the smallest laptops that I know is mine, the Acer 6930G which is 16'' and the Toshiba Satellite A300 which is 15.4''

The Dell Vostro 1520 and the 1320 I think can have 2 HD's but no optical drive.

Is there a single hybrid hard disk that comes with 500GB HDD and 64GB SSD? I would expect it come with 2 seperate HDDs in different slots.

    Could anyone verify this?

There are no hybrids on the market AFAIK that have 64GB SSD and 500GB HDD. That would require 2 slots. At the very least, one 1.8" and one 2.5"

It looks to me like it uses one HDD and a card-based SSD (like the mini-PCIe drives on netbooks).

Most Dell Latitude e-series have a modular bay that can hold either a HDD or an optical drive, and they are hot-swappable.

Oh yeah mini-PCIe is an option, too bad the speeds are terrible.

Interesting. This M500 brief suggest to me it's a hybrid drive since you also have a choice of a "standard" HDD as well:

The Hybrid storage system combines a 500GB (SATA) HDD and a 64GB SSD. Standard 320GB and 500GB HDD configurations are available as well.

The mini pci-e SSDs are for netbooks. Netbooks differing to notebooks since they have a sata controller attached to that port. However, Samsung is to release a 200/100 64GB pci-e SSD in the coming months. See here. Will be interesting to see how the OS will know about it's onboard SATA controller, which I would say would require a driver to load. In which case no OS boot from the SSD.

Not exactly but..... the HP DV4.

You can get a drive caddy (custom HP so it fits/looks perfect) and pop in any hard drive inside it. I think they run about $35, the caddy that is. You then just slide it into the drive bay and you're good to go.

i wrote to toshiba and here's their reply regarding the dual drives of M500.

A: 1) Satellite M500. The Solid State Drive (SSD) is not offered with the Satellite M500. Only the M500-ST6421 can be configured with a 500GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial ATA).

    2) Satellite P500. Only the Satellite P500-ST6821 offers dual drives where one is a 64GB SSD and the other a 500GB HDD.

    3) Other dual drive configurations include a 64GB SSD and a 320GB 7200rpm, Serial ATA drive. These models include the P505-S8950 and the A505-S6979.

    4) Lastly, systems must be configured with dual drives initially, as the drive cannot be added later. Regarding the slots themselves, the SSD drive uses a dedicated slot not compatible with a normal HDD.

Did Toshiba elaborate what sort of dedicated slot takes this 64GB SSD? It wouldn't be a mini pci-e slot Samsung SSD by any chance? Perhaps Toshiba can give a part number for it :)
