    Hi.

I was hoping to buy a 15.4" laptop with the best available graphicscard in late november.

Do you think I might be able to get one with the 8800 series?

The best available for 15.4" laptop at this time would be 8600M GT right?

Also. If the 8800 is released in third week of november will companies have their laptops ready for consumers at that point or would I have to wait for december?

    What are your thoughts? :)

    Regards

The 8700GT with 512Mb of GDDR3 memory is the fastest DX-10 notebook card out there at the moment, but i'm not sure if it is available in any 15.4" models at the moment. Your best luck on finding one would be on a Sager/Clevo model i think.

The 8700 is far too hot for a 15,4"...for now...there is slight possibility that it could work if the cards are built on smaller process, but the 8800 is impossible.

You can't even get a 8700M in to a 15" laptop, not even talking about 8800M.

he's right..if they cant fit a 8700m in a 15.4', what makes you think that they'll put a 8800m in? so the best for the 15.4" is the 8600m GDDR3, and maybe the ATI 2600m, but I havent heard much about it :S

With the G92 die shrink who knows what they can do, I'll be happy "IF" they have a 9600M GT next year for the 15.4" notebooks.

I am going to write this in capital letters.
NVIDIA WILL NOT RELEASE A 8700M/8800M VERSION THAT WILL FIT IN 15" LAPTOPS. 8700M/8800M ONLY FITS IN 17" LAPTOPS. WHY? BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO SELL ALL THEIR CARDS & WOULD BURN MOST LAPTOPS TRYING TO MAKE THEM WORK.
Please don't **** up asking the same question or assuming again.
By the way, the 9600M GT will be released for 15" laptops, just as a 8600M is now.

As has already been mentioned, a die shrink would resolve the heat issues and "anything is possible" at that point. But unless you have a date when they've committed to delivering die-shrink parts, the conversation is pointless.

I would love to have pictured what a 7900GT from a few years back would of done to a notebook, wait they had to clock down certian 7800GT cause they never solved the heat issues. Anything is possible with enough time, bet you an 8800GT single slot thats faster then the GTS was a fools hope a few weeks back.

Regardless of die shrink the 8800m will not appear in a 15" notebook simply because it runs too hot. It will consume about 35 watts.
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4049

To date the hottest GPU that has appeared in 15" notebooks is about 22 watts... So it's very unlikely this will happen.

Huh? Whats the relation to the thread and more importantly you do know the gt is more powerful than the gs right? I hope you didn't buy your laptop based on incorrect information.

Regarding the 8800m deal when the initial reports in th summer said 22 W then I was optimistic about it going into the c90 since there were rumors that it would. The new information which again is from inquirer so I'm not holding to to be true since they were the ones who claimed it was 22W.

Just wait and see this month I suppose.

In the old days, a 2.8GHz Prescott used about 70 watts and you can put one into a 15" laptop... You'll need a good fan and heatsink and the battery life would be terrible, but it would work.

The trend is for smaller, thinner and lighter notebooks though. I remember when 7-8lbs laptops was the "norm" for 15" and it was about 2 inches thick. It's really frowned upon these days. Not to mention those enormous power bricks. It's possible but unlikely...

i totally disagree with the bigger is better. I do audio video work, so i've always needed a 17" screen, but i've hated the size and bulkiness of 17" computers. I had an alienware 17", and an HP zd8000, and both were bulky, heavy, noisy, low battery life havin', and impossible to lug around day to day.

I now have a dv9500t which i fell in love with because it's 17", but it's one of the sleekest and lightest 17" on the market. It's over 3 pounds lighter than my dv9500t, and it's not as wide when closed. I get 2.5 times the battery life of my zd8k and I'm able to easily carry it around to school and work everyday. i think a lot of people are frustrated by the fact that they have to sacrifice portability for gaming performance, and i think portable yet powerful is a fast growing market.

if you think notebooks are like cars....then consider this:
a ford mustang gt gets around 65.2 Horsepower per engine litre, while some formula one cars can get up to 900 Horsepower per engine litre...bigger isn't always better.

You should compare what fuel consumption rates are at produced HP/TQ ratings to get a proper derating curve.

many companies use the c90 as their chassis and it has really good cooling with that enormous turbo engine, so it is possible the 8800m might come in there...we'll just have to wait and see
