    Laptop: MSI X460DX-006US.

I noticed this issue a week or so ago. I'd get on Call of Duty and it would stutter. I checked the Device Manager and it only listed my Intel HD GPU. Normally a restart would fix this. However, yesterday even a restart wouldn't bring my Nvidia GPU back. I disabled the Intel GPU, rebooted, and the Nvidia GPU came back with an error symbol. It was error 12. I even tried restoing it with the factory partition, still only an Intel GPU.

I'm about to send it in to MSI in a few hours. I was just wonding if anyone had any ideas?

    Thanks! :)

Not sure if it's related but I was going from nVidia to Intel and back along the same lines but it was happening when I went from AC to battery. I also disable the Intel driver and got a message.

I still haven't figured it out completely but of it's in power saver mode (and on battery power I assume) the Intel driver kicks in, eliminating the sight of the nVidia driver in device manager. Once you switch to either AC or increased performance mode, the nVidia driver appears again.

It's like magic, but called hybrid graphics.

Yes, I understand hybrid graphics and Optimus. What I don't get is this new, odd behavior where the GPU goes completely missing. I've had this laptop for over a month, and this had never happened until yesterday.

As I said, I even restored it to stock. But, I sent it in today, hopefully I'll get it back by next week. I'm really hoping they just send a replacement, a new 216us model. :D

If the GPU died it would seem to disappear and the integrated chip would take over I guess.

The same case happen with Asus K-series with nVidia Optimus. By removing the power adapter and battery, then press and hold power button for couple seconds and restore BIOS default settings, brings back the nVidia GPU.

Hm, that's interesting. If the GPU ever disappears after I get it back I'll try that.
