    Nvidia GeForce 9600m GT Fan Control

    Hello,
    I have a MSI GX620, which has a GeForce 9600m GT GPU.
    It runs a little hot and I was wondering if there is any program that can control the fan speed on it.

    I tried SpeedFan and RivaTuner and neither has been able to do anything about it.

    I don't think you can control the fans. You should clean out the fan/heatsink. Also you could try undervolting. Or replace the thermal paste on the GPU, this dropped my idle temps by 10C.

    What are you temps?

    It is currently running at 56, with a very low load
    And that was after a small cleaning job, though I'm not quite sure how to clean the heatsink (or where it is, haha)

    I was also planning to add thermal paste, fans were just another attack

    56 isn't bad, its just a little high. Whats you temp if you boo the laptop up and just let it sit? Mine is 48C.

    Oh I used Antec Formula 5 thermal paste, but any after market paste is better than stock paste.

    I've got pretty much the same notebook.

    My GPU idled at 45-47C (that was before I ruined my heatsink).

    After you clean out the dust and change the thermal paste, it should run cool.

    I could never find a way to change the fan speed.
    I looked at the dsdt table and the EC registers.
    I tried disconnecting the third fan wire, that just made the fan pulse.
    I even connected the fan to a USB port for a while but it was too loud.

    Im also using MSI gX620 and im planning to use OCZ Freeze Thermal Compound to replace the stock thermanl compund on both CPU and GPU.

    Do you know any steps by step instruction on how to do it?
    Have you tried OCZ Freeze Thermal Compound?
    My idle temp is arround 50-60C and it bumps to 85-90C when playing Cabal.
    Do you think its time to replace my stock thermal compound on both cpu and gpu? I've been using my laptop for almost 2 years since i bought it.

    Any help and suggestions guys... thanks

    You will have to change the paste on the CPU and GPU (and maybe the northbridge).

    When you're cleaning the dust, make sure you take the fan out of the heatsink and clean between the fan and heatsink.
    There should be a lot of dust there blocking the airflow.

    Would you recommend removing the thermnal pad and replace it with thermal paste?

    Not really. What I did was replaced the pad with a copper shim. Northbridge <> thermal paste <> shim <> thermal paste <> heatsink.

    But the NB shouldn't get hot, since the IGP is disabled. I would keep the pad (mine was bad that's why I replaced it with copper).

    Some people replace it with paste, but you need really thick paste like ICD7, there is a big gap to fill.
