It seems many folks are having problems updating firmware. For example, no drive is found message using the OCZ firmware update utility etc... So, I checked the OCZ forum.

General Discussion 1.23 Firmware update experiences

They recommend the Intel RST 1014 drivers and run as administrator in order to update the firmware correctly.

They also mention when you update the drive while it is running the OS, strange things happen, which is why there are the couple warnings there about BSOD, etc.

    Good luck! :)

Seriously, if OCZ claims their update utility does not work because you are using the wrong driver version...sigh...their update system must be pretty unstable .

One of the many reasons I no longer buy OCZ products.

Right, it's a PITA. :p I should have researched better before I pulled the trigger.

There are still known open issues:

SMART command B0 occasionally returns incorrect status.
    • Trim command response times are longer than desired.
    • Can't write-same the whole drive.
    • Resetting SMART PHY event counters has no effect.
    • Whitmore Lake (Intel 3100) Chipset Compatibility.
    • Drive may fail during power cycling test with rapid and short cycles.

    • Compatibility issue during Red Hat 5.4 Linux boot on nVidia MCP55 chipset
    • Sleep followed by non-data commands can sometimes cause the drive to fail to respond to the nondata
    command.

I'm just going to use it as a working drive for the time being until OCZ gets it fixed.

My new replacement Vertex 2 arrived this afternoon. I put it in the second bay and updated the firmware.

    Everything went smoothly this time.
