As the title suggests.. which hard drive is better??? Reasons.... I have added the polls as well.. The techreport and anandtech reviews conflict in this matter... techreport says no to OCZ where as anandtech says they are better than Intel g2's...

    What do ya guys think....

Go for Intel. You won't see much difference in performance in everyday use, but extra capacity will always be useful.

I'd go for the Intel, for the lower price per GB.

Think so... No one is even stading up to defend ocz vertex 2... Does it perform better in anyway when compared to intel g2... I think polls r just quite clear about the choice... Lol!!

if you're into synthetic benchmarks, then the vertex may hold a slight advantage. But that advantage is nil in day-to-day use.

The minimum storage for SSD today is 160GB to be of any practical use.

intel, stability > minor bench performance.

I voted for Intel for its capacity. I know Vertex is a bit faster than Intel in terms of benchmarks (as I have Vertex too), but for every-day performance you really don't see the difference :)

I just upgraded from 160GB to 256GB. I like my games, and hate to uninstall just because of space constraints. I have a NAS for storage purposes.

I only use about 30GB with apps/games installed. The 80GB Intel is enough for me.

Intel ssd has treated me well for 8 months.... if i were buying probably would just go with another x25m, blazing fast and i do need above 100gb just out of 5 games in already over, and sc2 still coming.... but probably wont buy anything else till g3 comes, hoping for 360gb for my desktop :)

I wouldn't like buying an Intel G2 now that the G3 might be around the corner. The Vertex 2 hasn't proven itself and the real world benchmarks by TechReport are quite disappointing.

I might buy a Seagate Momentus XT 250GB as a stop-gap product. Near SSD performance for a HDD price.

In the mean time I'll wait and see what happens on the SSD market: Intel G3, other products and price cuts.

Intel, vote because in some point reliability and beeing more proved that any other SSD deployed in market.

The space issue is actually not as clear as one may think.

I recently reviewed the OWC with the SandForce 1200 (same controller as Vertex 2) and proved that there was absolutely no performance decreased once filled completely. I can't speak to the Vertex 2 but, if this was the case, capacity concerns now change completely.

If the Vertex 2 never slowed at all as the OWC, you get 100Gb of storage space. With the Intel, you get about 60% before having to watch for performance degradation and this is recognized throughout the net so, the average consumer will actually stop around 100Gb for the Intel as well.

This now eliminates capacity and leaves performance to be a winning factor but there is something else that one might want to consider...

With the OWC, there is a 5 year warranty and guarantee that the drive will not degrade in performance as a result of it being filled or age. If the Vertex 2 were to also claim this because of the controller, this would place the Vertex 2 way ahead of the Intel.

The Vertex hasn't been ripped apart quite as thoroughly as the OWC has unfortunately and the provisioning capacity may be different...

    Just a thought.
