I just purchased a MSI x460dx and I am planning to install a SSD.
I see that there are a lot of choices available right now.
I have been using my OCZ Vertex(first version) but I have not had good experience with it(freezing problem sometimes, performance down)
Now, I am trying to buy a new SSD for my laptop but am not sure what to buy.
Here is what I know so far..
Vertex 3 120gb is so far the best performance but I am not sure if it will be stable.. my previous vertex failed
Intel 510 seems good but I heard it is not really good or does not support many programs. Also, most expensive
Crucial- I have not heard anything about crucial, I can't quite trust them.. just my opinioin
Samsung- They have good ratings and reviews and good prices.
Prices of Sata II and III are not really different so anybody know why it is like that?
Let me know which SSD would be good for my laptop
Thanks

Avoid OCZ like the plague. They haven't fixed their issues, the Vertex 3 line is actually the worst of the 3 generations in terms of reliability. The Intel 510 is a good drive, albeit usually rather pricey. It has no program issues...it's a drive. You install, it works, it can't be incompatible with programs?
Crucial is a terrific company. Ever heard of Micron? The guys making memory for decades, and the leaders in such? Well, Crucial is a part of Micron, and their SSD's are among the tops on the market. The controller they use they have been using for 2 years now. The same controller that Intel decided to use in the 510. A Crucial M4 is a great drive to opt for, many many people on the forums here with one and very happy with it. Great balance of speed, reliability, and cost.
Samsung, yep, good brand. Only SATA 2 drives atm, but they have a SATA 3 drive series due out in October.
Intel, Samsung, Crucial, those are the 3 brands to be looking at. Any of their drives are good. Crucial M4 is often chosen as best overall, it is nearly as fast as the Vertex 3, with reliability near Intel. Priced nicely too. That's my recommendation, but you can't go wrong with anything from those 3 brands. -
I'd wait and get a Samsung SSD SATA III.
Cheers

I'm sure Samsung will be competitive, they were/are with the 470. That said, there are indeed some nice deals on M4s and the like right now. Newegg has the 256GB M4 for less right now than I paid using a 10% coupon 2 months ago...rofl. The M4 so far has been one of the more reliable drives in terms of issues (just the LPM which was pretty promptly fixed). The Intel 510 has been good too.

I have to agree that M4 now sounds like a very good candidate in how fast they response to issues(and the effectiveness of the fix, unlike the recent Intel)

Thanks for the comments, I just purchased a m4 64gb with 15 percent off from newegg haha. It is pretty good price and I can't wait to get it
