Hi everyone, I've got a Compaq CQ62 with a V120 processor (AMD Single Core). It runs everything I want to fine, but I'd like to OC a little bit so I don't have to waste my money on buying a new laptop. I'm very experienced with overclocking, and I know the risks etc., but I don't know much about software that allows you to do so. I am aware of SetFSB, but I honestly have no idea how to use it. I don't even know how to find out the "Clock Generator". Can anyone help me out?

You can try CPU-Tweaker. I don't know if it will work with AMD CPU though.

Just installed it, and it doesn't seem like there are any options for OCing even though it says it supports AM3....hmmm.

I think that the only way to oc will be using software which will program registry of clock generator. And the only software this type still being develop is SetFSB. Assuming offcourse that this laptop have clock generator because this new AMD mobile platform have option to use internal clock generator located in southbridge and that mean no chance for oc at all (that at least what datasheet for southbridge SB820 is saing). Then download setfsb and try to find out that.

I tried SetFSB and the moment I get into it, it says "Chipset error". I'm guessing this motherboard isn't supported?

That su..... Im guessing that, that may mean two things: motherboard simply dont have external PLL, in this case ther's nothing to do else or chipsets are so new that thera no support for them yet. In this second case You have still hope that creator of setfsb will add in the future them and You will be able to oc. I dont know how's with Your HP because i couldnt find schematic or service manual for it to confirm one of the case.

I just looked on Setfsb page and notice this in latest update: Fixed SLG8SP626V(Toshiba A665D-S6091). And that's data about this model from Toshiba site:

    A665D-S6091 : Detailed Product Specs
Processor : AMD Phenom™ II Quad Core Mobile Processor P940.

That's quad core processor from that's same family like Your V120 and it can work only on new socket s1g4 and with new chipset RS880 and sb820. In other words Your chipset is already supported in Setfsb - that is what I think. But the only way to be sure is probably find schematic or check motherboard for presents of external clock gen.

Damm I really wanne see oc'ed those AMD cpu but it aleredy second laptop in which aparently it cannot be done. First one was, I think, HP aswell. I know from schematic avable on the internet that acers 5551 and 7551 shoud have external Pll's. Maby someone with those laptops or Toshiba A665D will volunteer for this task??

I'm using the freeware, not the shareware. This might explain why I can't do it?

Try then with latest shareware version. You can not change nothing with sliders but You can read the registers and frequencies with shareware.

I installed it and tried using the Clock Gen you gave me, and it said "PLL Byte Error"

well how could i forget.. you got a compaq right? In Hp/Compaq , the PLL is locked so you can't OC.. you need to pin mod which is dangerous and can brick your laptop before you can use SetFSB..

Try first "pll diagnosis" from clock list, it should be at the end. If will gave You registers reading, make screenshot and show it.

I pointed that clock gen, just to show that Setfsb work aleredy with your laptop chipsets. If it gave You "PLL Byte Error" that's probably mean that Your Pll isn't from Silego like in showed Toshiba example. Your laptop may use clock generator made by IDT or Realtek and that's what should be fount first.
