My upgraded blu-ray XL player is no longer recognized while in its external case. When it was connected directly into the OD port it worked fine.

However, when I plug it in from the external case using USB cable, I get the familiar chime but it does not show up in PC devices. Meanwhile the OEM blu-ray player which is also in an external case is recognized.

I replaced it with an HDD because it didn't come with its own attached slot loading face plate, and the original face plate did not fit the attachment points of the new drive.

OK I tested on an older Pentium 4 desktop and it was immediately recognized (after installing drivers).

But when plugged into my laptop it powers on but is not recognized. Nobody has had this difficulties with your external OD hook up guys?

No issues with my ODD running external. But I use a SATA to eSATAp adapter (since my R2 has the eSATAp port). That eliminates any incompatibilities on the data side.

If you get the bing-bong sound when you plug it in, have you checked Disk Management.msc to see if it shows up there?

You could also technically do this Krane, the eSATA port on the M6700 is actually eSATAp.

Not looking forward to the addition of any more external gear. Nevertheless, I'll keep that in mind should all other efforts fail. Thanks for the feedback all.

If I had even a hint of a solution, I would post it, but I don't use external optical drives, so my experience is rather limited. If you could find a way to try it over eSATA without having to buy more gear in the first place, that would be best too.

Well I just tried it on a near decade old desktop and it absolutely works. Same USB port and it was plug and play.

Funny thing is its the OEM player? Although not a major inconvenience since I have another 12.5mm slot load backup that works fine. Just a bit bigger of course, and it uses a USB 3.0 port. I just hate not knowing why its not working.
