has nothing to do with it, just with how bright it can illuminate. (mostly).
and oleds can go brighter for the same amount of energy as an lcd. best would be black with white text, then the white text can go very very bright (depending on how bright an actual OLED pixel can go, of course)

Indoory the OLED definitely seems brighter and clearer, but outdoors...
So I wonder why this dicrepancy?
OLED claimed to be great in sunlight and me finding it isn't?? -

maybe because of shiny reflective glass on it?
my tablet pc tfts are at least much better in the sun than any ordinary laptop screen, so i'd guess the tablet pc oled that will be on one of my future tablets will be much better, too -

Is this thread not dead yet?
OLED notebook screen by no means is a revolution in notebook display world. I bet some first OLEDs will be even worse than some LCD. -
Nether in terms of colours.
Little devices like my Sony X-1060 MP3 player show this. -

they are always better than an lcd at the same place. the only question will be cost. to manufacture, they're actually more cheap than an lcd, as they are less complex to build. but that won't, at the start, mean cheaper screens .. -
oops, i voted no by accident....
anyways, I am totally psyched for OLED screens. Don't get me wrong, LED screens gave us brighter, thinner and more energy saving displays. But OLED will do all of that (with even more amazing results) and give us eye popping color and contrast quality. OLED's are perfect for cell phones and laptops. Smaller, more portable devices with better screens and more amazing battery life? i'm down for 2! -
I'm actually not that excited about OLEDs. I think image quality would be similar, but I think the main draw for me would be how thin they are able to make OLED monitors.
-
wow...so many answers on this..lol
I think that if we can get a OLED screen that is much brighter, thinner, energy-efficient than an LED LCD comparable display, then this is a huge improvement! -

This is gona be expensive....I think OLED notebook's will become moderately avaible for normal customer in 3-4 years...
-
i think this is gonna end up being as expensive as the current LED "premium" is...remeber LEDs are next standard, theoretically, so OLED must be a hundred more...or so, and considering what it has to offer, i think it is worth it!

Netbooks would be a good place to start introducing OLEDs given that they're expensive compared though traditional notebook panels. Samsung I suppose would be the first to do so.
-
"Poll Results: Do you think OLED will provide a noticeable difference over LED?"
If it means we don't have to put up with stupid reflective/glare screens, yeah I'll NOTICE it alright =) -
SpacemanSpiff Everything in Moderation
I'm also hoping that if the OLED manufacturering process is more flexible than that for LCDs, it may be possible for notebook manufacturers to bring back 4:3 screens for those of us who miss them.
-
lol...I dont think 4:3 will ever come back, but I am hoping 16"10 to stick around
-
SpacemanSpiff Everything in Moderation
Rather, I was suggesting that OLED manufacturing may allow for flexibility in screen shapes. -
you think that OLED manufacturers will even think on doing so?
It could be interesting...but I think widescreen is to stay because it would end up being cheaper for them, i think.
A 4:3 OLED would be outrageously expensive -
Just an interesting discovery on my Sony MP3 players MP3 player.
Its not very readable in sunlight which doesn't pass through a car window/windscreen - to me this means UV light.
If UV light is filtered, its good to read in bight light, if it isn't, its very bad - and maybe my Sony SZ's LED screen maye even better. -
ok, can anyone explain whats better/different about OLED compared to LED and LCD?
-
^ \v/TF is LED has to do with OLED and LCD screens?
-
LED is the backlighting of the LCD.
OLED is a completely different stuff. It is Organic Light Emitting Diode. Basically it is not a backlight, but the OLED itself is the screen.
Better battery life, better contrast ratio, thinner profile theoretically. -
