Hey guys ... I have an HP dv6345us with a 4-cell battery (i think?). My laptop's connected to AC power the whole time, even when i use it. Now everytime i unplug, the battery dies on me in LITERALLY 5-7 minutes. What's wrong? I know it's time for a new battery, but ... FIVE MINUTES?!![]()

Not surprising. I have a friend whose laptop dies as soon as it disconnects from AC.
-
LOL good to know i'm not alone ... kinda.
-
How old is the BATT?
-
How old is the battery? And what operating system are you using?
-
Well i got the laptop in I THINK April/May of this year.
I use Vista Premium. -
4 cell batteries die a lot sooner to because you dont realize you go through more charge cycles with them.
-
it shouldnt be that soon, and it should be still under warranty, maybe you should have it returned to have it checked. OR try buying a six cell battery, and test it.
-
I believe they include a 1 year battery warranty, so you can just get a replacement.
-
Batt is fried no other answer buy a new one!
-
Crap totally forgot about warranty! Hah!
I'll call HP tomorrow, i really hope they won't ask to send the laptop, they shouldn't right? -
Wonder if the battery is fried? Maybe it's still under warranty and can be replaced.

Also make sure that you take a look at the Battery Guide when you get your new battery. The guide has helpful advice on how to use and prolong the life of laptop batteries.
Happy Holidays

Will do. Thanks Kdawgca.

After reading the battery thread on this forum i realized that leaving the battery always plugged in also damage the battery. -

Batteries are not destroyed by keeping them plugged in all of the time. A battery only charges when the potential difference of the voltage across the two polar ends of the electrolytic cell are less than the voltage of the incomming current. When the voltage of the cells equals the voltage of the charge circuit, charging ceases as their is no electric gradient. The same principal applies in cars. The alternator only charges the battery when its voltage is less than the output of the alternator. If the alternator charged the battery continuously, as many think it does, the battery would explode in an hour of driving.
I have an old Northgate laptop which nears 14 years old, and guess what they thing still holds a charge. The charge is like 5 minutes, but that is what it was when it was new. Battery's were only meant to save the system in case of a power surge/outage, so that the machine could safely shutdown dos.

Thanks everyone, especially powerpack, for the input!

My HP Pavilion ZD8000 does this...granted, it's 4 years old ... lol...

Just called HP about it. The technician asked me to open up HP advisor, then told me to click on this battery check link, but it said "check not installed or battery unsupported" so he said "well then we'll just ship out a replacement". Yay. lol
-
Now that was easy!
OMG - My battery
