hey guys, i didn't know where to post this but my OCZ ram i bought from a seller on hardforums, has a mark on the pins(iono what you call it)? will this make my rams not function correctly? this is on one of the stick, hmm just checked the other stick, while typing this up and a tiny speck on the other stick. Its like a shiny little dot, you know?

I think its just a question of whether the "mark" prevents that pin from making a connection or not. I'm thinking that it will still make the connection fine, as they're usually a snug fit, but you'll have to test it and see I think.

and p.s. this thread will probably be moved under "Other Manufacturers > OCZ"

EDIT: I was wrong, it was moved under hardware components and aftermarket upgrades...

Only problem is, will it work but not work to full capacity if that pin doesn't connect? And how will you be able to tell, etc. Or will it just not work completely? Just saying, your idea might not be so "brilliant" as to warrant sarcasm

If a pin doesn't connect it will not work at all.

I installed a PNY PC2700 stick in my moms computer and one of the gold colored pins came off the stick, and melted to the pin on the motherboard ram slot. (My guess is dust got stuck between or something) Anyway, when I went to boot it up it didn't start (and the fact I smelled something burning let me know something was wrong. lol)

this is not true, the memory will not break the system. The memory is the weakest link.
    For example,
this past summer I got my hands on a Compaq proliant server. It uses PC133 ECC memory. Now if you look at pc133 ecc memory and standard memory, their is only a one pin difference. Anyways, I didnt notice that cause the pc133 standard card fit into the slot in the server. When I fired it up, the memory shorted and you could see that it was burned. The board burned through the memory PCB on I think 4 pins. The memory is black their, completely burned through the platings for the leads. Now I tested the memory in another machine, and it fired up and runs. It even passes memcheck. So the meat and potatoes of that is that your memory will work. Electrostatic charge is what kills memory pretty much nothing else brakes it short of a hammer

Vinceboii you are perfectly safe testing that memory in your laptop. The leads inside the physical memory jack cover the entire platings, so you are safe. Most pins actually do not do anything other than serve as a grounding mechanism.

That really doesn't look like any harm :) I think it should work just fine. I've had lots of memory modules that has had some kind of marks on some of the pins, it would be another thing if the pin or a part of it was missing.
