I was recently doing some benchmarking of my HDD and decided to also do one on a 2GB CompactFlash card I had lying around. The first test was normal and it averaged 12 MB/sec with a max of 15 MB/sec. I then did the test again and half way through the test I used Explorer to search for a file (on my local HDD), and while the search was running the numbers spiked on my benchmark and were running at 23 MB/sec for the duration of the search and then went back down to the normal 12 MB/sec when the search was complete. Just to be sure this wasn't a fluke I did the test on another card and it too went up from 15 MB/sec to 35 MB/sec when I did a search.
Any idea what caused this? I did a search on NBR but haven't found anything to suggest what may be causing this.

This is possible, and I have seen it done before. If you force your system to run at its maximum clock speed, the usb speed should be running at maximum speed. I am not 100% sure if this is just based on the cpu speed, or the usb hub dynamically changing speed. I know when I have done some tests, flash memory performs slower when my cpu is at 1000MHz than when my cpu is at 2166MHz

Cheers K-Tron, I'll try locking the CPU to max speed, run the test again and see what I get.
