Odd thing with matte-finish LCD screens, or just overuse?

I noticed this when I turned off the LCD of my notebook to clean it and see the smudges I have to clean out (via Fn+F6, I think it's an Acer thing, or maybe not all notebooks have it) but I noticed something.

Before turning off the notebook I have a firefox window open, and an explorer browser over it. Then when I finally did turn off the screen, I saw ghostly images of what my screen looked like before I turned it off..thinking it was just burnt onto the LCD perhaps since I had the windows and the laptop itself open a bit long enough, I tried to change the windows open, and to my surprise the screen-off image also changed!!! It's as if the LCD is still on, and I just "turned off" the backlight. Has anyone experienced this already? Could this be a sign that the notebook is failing? Or not. Haha. Anyway, I have some theories about this I want to share:

    1. Perhaps the images really get burned onto the screen and would go away after some time? But I haven't waited that long yet to see if the image does go away after some time.
    2. It's as if the LCD is still on, and I just "turned off" the backlight. Like I said, perhaps the button just toggles the backlight of the LCD screen on and off? Have you tried the program I think that lets you turn of the screen immediately? Does it work the same way?

I think you just turned off the backlight and the screen is still on.

I don't quite see how this might be a sign of the notebook failing since you pressed Fn+F6 to turn the screen off in the first place.

Ahe. Yeah. I was just exaggerating a bit there. But it was because this was the first time I noticed the thing.

Also, I did figure it out just now..I got taimurasad's app here that I think immediately calls on the LCD-Off function of Windows itself, not just shutting down LCD backlight like Acer's does..there's also a difference since Acer's just flickers off while taimurasad's fades out to black..and there are no more ghost images! yeah!

Anyway, just one last question. So if I use the Fn+F6 function, the graphics card still renders things on my desktop, right? I'm not after battery consumptions whatsoever--I just want to make sure if I'm right in assuming that the Fn+F6 really does not turn off the LCD..it's a knowledge-thing. :D

Same thing with my Asus, but it's Fn+F7. The backlight turns off, but the monitor stays running. If I push the windows button while the backlight is off, the start menu is actually visible without the light on, if I'm using a dark or light background.

Also, my monitor is a glossy LED backlit kind, so I don't think it has anything to do with the matte finish.

Uhuh. Yeah. Thanks for the replies. :D

I find taimurasad's app more useful, although sometimes it fails to engage, but then again it's better than just turning off the backlight, right? I bound the application with my "mail" button (in Launch Manager, for Acer Empowering Technology, I think :lol :) so that's my screen-off button. :D
