I really couldn't care less what company it is (as long as they don't have an absolutely abysmal history). I get sold on a certain laptop, not what name is on it.

The only one I know of at the moment is the Dell 1420/1400. ASUS has not gotten many contracts lately and alot of their contracts have not been renewed, probably due to that they are now a threat in the industry.

Yeah that is what I assumend. I really like HP, and Asus . If Asus gets an even better repition I would not even consider HP. I think it has a bit to do with the name Asus sounding a bit like Acer NO JOKES!

Umm hmm, Asus build quality will obliterate HP any day. Not to mention Asus is a well established company for many years now, making some of the best motherboards in the market.

    In short: Asus >>> HP

Quanta designs/makes some seriously nice and sturdy notebooks. They are the largest notebook manufacturer in the world.
    - notably for Sony, Apple's Macbooks, Lenovo/IBM, Gateway, Dell, etc.

Compal is the right up there as well, with great designs. They are 2nd largest.
    - notably for Toshiba, NEC, some Dell's, HP, Compaqs, etc..

Clevo is probably the most well-known boutique brand manufacturer in the world.
    - more well known with re-branding from Alienware, Sager, VooDoo PC, Falcon, etc..
    - known to be luxury notebooks, and the best for the money.

    ASUS is right up there.
    - making their own notebook lines
(but has recently made a contract to produce the next Toshibas)

MSI (Micro-Star Intl) is another great designer/manufacturer.
    - like Asus, they have their own line of notebooks that get re-branded.

    Then you got:
    AOPEN (Acer)
    Arima
    LG
    MiTAC
    Uniwill
    Twinhead
    Foxconn
    FIC
    ECS

I think Asus will start to make well gaming laptops like c80 and c70 those will be cool. They will compete with Clevo and personally I would get Asus over Clevo. ****Next Toshibas are those the Santa Rosa ones like the X205?******

Technically, the Clevo gaming notebooks are usually unrivaled in the high-end market.

Most companies cant compete directly with raw high-end gaming power.

So Asus has the niche by making their notebooks to be mid-range gaming, but nice style and options.
