Ok guys, this might be a tough question.
As far as I know, my two eSata drives are always spinning at their respective speeds. That generates heat, that generates noise...I don't like either.
Any ideas? NHC does not see them.
I was wondering that if I set XP to turn off my hard discs after a certain amount of time, would that do it? Probably not for a USB drive, but I'm wondering about the eSata drive as my laptop thinks that drive is actually an internal drive. Is there any way to verify that the drive is indeed spinning down?

I wish I had a better answer but wouldn't the heat and noise be less?

AFAIK The windows Spin down time does work for USB drives. I'm not sure about eSATA.

Yeah it is not something windows or any os can control. Some eSATA cases have this feature build in meaning they spin down on their own when there is no activity for a while.
All these first generation eSATA enclosures are pretty bad. Comparable to the NAS enclosures 2 years ago. It will take them time to work out the kicks and tricks of the firmware.
Ok...so how do I do this? Spin down an external eSata hard drive...
