    Hello tot all!

I currently have a Asmobile S37S, which is more at Brightpoint (RMA) then at my place. I've had a defective powersupply, mainboard / bios, and now my dvd burner and cardreader are both defective.

So I've decided to let them keep it, and go for a refund. Now I wanted to order a new barebone (Compal JHL90, Montevina) but was worried about my current CPU.

I currently have a T8300 (+ other components, but those will fit for sure), which is also 45nm Penryn and socket P. Will this T8300 fit on the Montevina platform. Since I can afford a barebone upgrade, but also replacing CPU (I noticed a new one is about 200-220 dollars) is something I hope can be avoided.

    Thanks in advance!

I believe that Montevina uses Socket P, so any Penryn, including the ones that have been out for almost a year, should work.

Yes, that's correct, it is socket P.

But since it's a different chipset, won't there be things like voltage conflicts?

The one I was going to buy is the Compal JHL90 by BTOnotebooks.nl (15W27+ ? )

Yes, both the JHL90 as the T8300 have socket P.

But in the meantime I got a mail from BTO stating that voltage are indeed different and that you cannot use an "old"-Penryn.

Geuss I'm sticking with FL90 then. Since the barebone is allready about 100 dollars more, and the CPU would also add 200 dollars.

Anyone else who can confirm this?

The socket Ps are only capable of throttling the FSB within the range of 400-800MHz...and since the montevina chipset would be accompanied by CPUs having an FSB of 1066MHz, I think there will be a release of a new socket alongwith the new chipset..Maybe.. or is it backward compatible or something..?? :D

    That's what I was wondering ;-).

But both sockets use socket P. So physicly the T8300 could fit the Montevina.

    But will it work ?

BTW. If it is really yours, love the Supra

Normally, the penryn CPUs shouldwork in Montevina, since it's backwards compatible also. You should have no problem with them working ,but right now, Montevina is still not launched, so it does not really matter.

Yes I know, but it's possible to place a reservation @ BTO notebooks.

I really, really need a new notebook (the S37S just quit on me again for about 15 minutes), but in 2 weeks Monteniva comes out. So it would be kinda of a waste to buy a new barebone now. On the other hand, I'd like to keep my T8300 from the "old" S37S.

    That's why I was asking :).

But thanks for your answer. Counting all yes / no there is about a 90% chance the'll work. That's a risk I have to take then.
