I have an old gateway 450SX4 that's running fine... it only has 256 of RAM though.

I opened the bottom, and it looks like there is two slots for RAM - one was empty, and in the other was:

    DDR266 256MB 16mx16 2.5v MI

    Here's the specs from Gateway:

    http://support.gateway.com/s/Mobile/Gateway/450SX4/3501271sp2.shtml

Anyways, the gateway site says max is 512, but that seems a little redicilous (and perhaps outdated)... I don't have a huge budget, but I really want to throw another 256mb on there or perhaps a 512 in addition to the original 256.

What I'm asking for is a direct link to what I need! Thanks in advance.

The chipset on the motherboard supports up to 1GB of RAM (2x512MB). HOWEVER, Gateway's BIOS or even their motherboard layout might limit the laptop to a max of 512MB.

I would suggest trying it, as it will probably work.

EDIT: Lemme double check this...Intel might be referring to the 845MP chipset for 1GB and your chipset for 512MB.

Yes, the chipset is limited to 512MB.

See Section 1.3, Table 1 of this document.
