Hey folks!
This may be close to being OT, but I was wondering if any of you good people could share some of your knowledge with me.
I play with old computers as a hobby, and my latest eBay find is a Gigabyte GA-7DPXDW-PQVL (I challenge anyone to find a longer model number!) It's a AMD socket A (462) 266MHz dual processor motherboard. It was a steal at only $25 (shipping included.) It'll run Athlon XPs but was really designed to use the Athlon MPs (as were several other server boards made around that time.)
I sorta bought this board on a whim (I should really stop doing that) and it wasn't until I had won the auction that I discovered that the MP processors that are certified for the board cost a fortune (well, OK, maybe not a fortune, but more than I want to pay.)
That's where you good folks come in- I have several local sources for "scraptops" (broken laptops) that still have thier processors in them, so if any of you know of laptop models that use the 266MHz T-bird MPs (2200+,2400+,2600+, and the big daddy of them all- the 2800+) I might be able to save a bit of money (which I could spend on other impulse buys, perpetuating the cycle, and simulating the economy)
I've looked at several manufacturers websites, but finding specs on old laptops can be a really time consuming chore. If any of ya'll know of sites that have basic specs on older laptops in a easy to use (and preferably searchable) format, that would also be a big help.
Thanks!

i have 2600+ lying about in London. But dunno when i'm going there...

I think that they only used XP's in laptops, as there is no reason why they would put an Athlon MP server processor in a laptop. I know that the last generation of 462 based laptops used the Athlon XP (Barton), which was famous for being thrown into desktop boards and oc'd to like 2.5+ GHz.

I thought the MP was a mobile processor, I guess I was thinking of the Athlon M.

Whoops, make that the XP-M. I really should "Wiki" stuff before I go on forums and make myself look dumb. I guess it's going to be XP 2200+'s for now, until I can afford a couple of MP 2800+'s. At least the memory for the board isn't expensive.
