I needed a small, cheap, cool looking laptop for car ECU tuning... The m3200 was the only thing that fit the bill

Now the fun begins, it's no m9750 with dual ATI 3850s/7600g, but I can tweek on in nonetheless

First up, its coming with a pentium m 740...
With pentium Ms being dirt cheap, what's the best one to grab for a pinmod?
I highly doubt the 755and 765 would work, but has anyone tried?
So far it looks like the 735($5) or 745($10) is the best pick, but with 780s only being $30...

    Memory is DDR2...
    2gb?
    3gb?
    More?

Surprisingly it has a SATA HDD jack  so it will get a cheap SSD and probably an IDE bluray drive. Just cause...

I haven't been around for a while... Are there any decent express card USB 3.0 devices?

I haven't heard of Pentium M supporting more than 2 GB of RAM, though I think some people have gotten the laptop BIOS to recognized 2 GB of DDR2 sticks, but I don't think the chipset can actually handle more than 2 GB.

Get a pair of the fastest 1GB DDR2 sticks you can find. Also why wouldn't a 755 or 765 work? But you don't want those anyway. Stick with a processor with a C0 stepping. See here: List of Intel Pentium M microprocessors - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Looking at the processors available, you should probably get a 745 or 745a, but make sure it is a C0 stepping. That is the C0 stepping processor with the highest multiplier. You can do a pin mod to get 533Mhz FSB, which would give you 2.4Ghz. If it has any more headroom you can then try overclocking the FSB with software.

I don't think a pentium M could be run that fast(2.66/2.8ish) without a significant voltage bump...

I got it today... I could have sworn the HDD was SATA...

Any recomendations on putting an SSD in it?

native PATA SSD or SATA SSD + adapter?
