I got a ASUS UL30VT-A1 notebook at a Pawn shop for $110 and I was wondering that can this notebook go up to 8GB DDR3 ram? I seen some sites saying yes about it but I' am not sure if it can. I know it has a 64bit Windows 7 Home on it so just wondered if it can really go up to 8GB ram. Here are the specs of this notebook.

    • Intel SU7300 Core 2 Duo 1.3GHz Processor
    • 4GB of DDR3 RAM
    • 500GB SATA Hard Drive (5400 RPM), No Optical Drive
    • NVidia G210M Graphics with 512MB DDR3 + Intel GMA 4500MHD (Switchable VGA); Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) Operating System
    • 13.3-Inch Widescreen HD LED LCD Display; Wi-Fi 802.11 bgn; Bluetooth; 0.3M Webcam

I live on SSI Welfare and have EBT and Medicaid since I have OCD, Tics and some ADD. I don't have a lot of money so I can't afford a new machine. But just wondered if this notebook can go up to 8GB.

More than likely the answer is 'no'. Don't waste your time or $$$ on this 'upgrade'.

With 4GB RAM and Win10 (your other thread), while not optimal, it will be fine for light/moderate workloads.

Well I do low demanding games like WoW, GW2, SC2 or The Sims 4 so I thought maybe it will run better at 8GB? or it would make no difference? Also are you sure that it won't do 8GB or are you just guessing? I have a Dell OptiPlex 780 SFF desktop PC and it goes up to 16GB even it says only 8GB on Dell. The Dell I have has a faster processor though but same Core 2 duo but the desktop has a E8600 so it's a 3.30 gHz dual core so a lot faster. I got the 16GB rams cheap used on Ebay had four 4GB DDR3 PC3-8500 rams. I thought like my Dell this one can go up to 8GB even ASUS doesn't say it can. But I wanted you guys to verify if for sure it can go up to 8GB so I don't end up returning the rams to the seller. I think the ASUS has two slots so can put two 4GB rams.

Okay, so you want to waste your time and $$$ on testing and pursuing this upgrade. :)

Go for it. Worse comes to worse? You put the RAM on fleabay again.

Of course 8GB is better. Even to browse the forums here. ;)

I honestly doubt it, you'll hit bottlenecks from your other components long before RAM is an issue. Also, running GW2 on a SU Core 2 Duo, in itself is a bad idea. WoW will likely run at potato settings, same for SC2 and Sims 4 as well. Potato settings (aka lowest possible because the computer can't reasonably handle anything else) will not take enough RAM for 4 GB to be an issue anyways.

Thanks for the updates kosti and tijo. :)

To clarify; I will always recommend maxing out a platform with the highest capacity/best quality RAM you can run it with (stable).

I do not know if the games specified would benefit from doubling the RAM to 8GB, but I do know the user experience (especially in multitasking) would definitely benefit.

The Core 2 Duo systems have many, many bottlenecks including not optimally using the maximum RAM as well as more modern platforms can, but that said; if you can max out the RAM on your platform (any platform) and stay within your budget; do so.

(Post #2 made me second guess the OP about the amount of $$ he/she has to spend on these things). ;)
