Hi!
Guys, I know, that there are like 1000 topics about upgrading CPU, when chipset is GML940. As far as I know, the best CPU upgrade for this chipset is T1350, which is Core Solo. Your arguments were 1. difference stock, 2. too many or too few pins on CPU 3. difference voltage, 4. FSB. But there is one Core Duo, that could work with this chipset. T2060 have same stock as Celeron M 430, same number of pins, same FSB. Only uknown data is voltage.
Did anyone try do this on GML940? If there is 90% for take success, I can try to do that, but I don't want to blow up my computer![]()

Really? No one?
-
Try it - your not going to blow up the computer worst that can happen is it doesn't work.
-
That's the reason I asked if anyone did it before meand also - what are your opinion guys? You thing it's gonna work?
-
Voltage is not so much the concern as whether the CPU will be recognised by the bios and work. As stated above - the worst that could happen is to show massage of incompatibility and not work, you won't burn anything.
-
Well, it doesn't work... Even when I upgrade BIOS to the newest version :-(
So here is the finall question:
I bought:
Core Solo T1350 to replace Celeron M 430
Samsung HM160HC to replace Seagate 5600 rpm (don't remember name, but it was very bad on benchmark charts)
2 x 1 GB RAM to replace 2 x 512 MB RAM
Notebook is Acer 3680 with Intel GML940 chipset and GMA950 graphics
Should I install Windows XP with SP3 or Windows 7 with SP1? What would give me better performance in standard use (internet, world, excel etc)? -
StormJumper Notebook Virtuoso
Like example Socket M on widipedia brings this:
Socket M - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The info it tells on there the processor family that fits with the socket type. Rather then go with chipset I would go with socket type that would better identify which processor would fit. That was how I upgrade a Toshbia P205 from pent to T7200 and loaded it with Windows 7x64 Ult Sp1 and performance was a definite improvement.
One Core Duo that works with GML940
