Is there any online USA based site for ordering or pre-ordering Crucial M4/C400?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

That's where I got mine from. Great customer service and shipped same day it was in stock.

    Thanks friends.

    NoSlow5oh,

You've had any problems with the C400? Any installation or compatibility issue with L502X?

Unfortunately Superbiiz doesn't accept payment via paypal or credit card when you're outside of USA, even if the shipping address for the item is in US -which in this case will be a friend of mine in Maryland. They accept only wire transfer. I hope C400 are not all sold out before I receive information regarding the bank account etc...

By the way C400 is exactly the same SSD with M4, right? You've already said it is, but I just wanted to make sure...

    Thanks.

In the Anadtech review it is mentioned that without Trim M4 will perform really bad. What OS has no trim support? Windows 7 64 bit does have trim support, right? Is this something to worry about?

Windows 7 supports TRIM. Nothing to worry about.

OS X doesn't support TTRIM officially yet.

I am just ready to place my order from Crucial.com. However I'm still worried about M4's possible performance degradation because of its zero provisioning and delayed garbage collection characteristics mentioned in several reviews.

Do you experience performance degradation with your c400? Is this something I should not worry about?

Still waiting for mine. They had holidays and shipped it today. I'm afraid it will arrive here after I already sold my laptop.

As far as I know the only problem that M4 has occurs when you fill it completely. This is what Anand and Tomshardware talk about.

I don't think the problem will occur if you always keep 10% empty space.

Techreport.com showed that their torture test didn't affect M4's performance.

No problems at all besides the LPM and RST thing (stuttering) which affected all sata III drives. Took 3 minutes to fix. I've filled mine to about 145GB worth of data, and the ATTO benchmarks keep showing faster read/write speeds as I fill this drive up. I've done some tweaks and have my boot times around 15 seconds or so. I took notice when buying of the delayed garbage collection, so I randomly leave it on for a while at idle to let gc do it's thing. I've stressed this computer to the max with real world applications simultaneously, and it still flys with no problems.

Somehow I didn't manage to complete the order process on the Crucial site even though I tried paying with 2 different credit cards (multiple times with each) along with Paypal. So I still haven't purchased an ssd.

In the meantime I've read many reviews of both Intel 510 and Crucial M4.

Intel 510 is better with sequential reads and writes but much lower on 4k read and writes compared to Crucial M4. The Intel drive has garbage provisioning feature while the Crucial drive doesn't.

Before placing my order finally (hopefully) tonight, what I want to know are:

    1. Would the Intel drive be as snappy and responsive as the Crucial drive, or would the differences in 4k read/write values between them be noticeable?

    2. Would the higher file transfer speeds of Intel be felt (and be fully taken advantage of) when moving files from ssd to external hdd (via usb 3.0 or esata)? Or would the two drives perform similarly in ssd to hdd transfers.

    3. Considering the applications I use, would you recommend me one of these drives over the other:

    - Constant web browsing (using Firefox),
    - frequent typing in MS Word,
    - downloading via http and torrent networks,
    - file transfers from ssd to hdd (Each transfer being 1-1.5 gb in total, either 4-5 folders, each containing 300 mb worth of Flac files or single or multiple video files),
    - music file conversion/editing,
    - watching hd or full hd videos (mostly from external hdd)
    - seldom gaming

I know you had commented that they would perform similarly, but I am still bewildered by the conflicting benchmarks posted on different websites. So please bear with me one last time and share your valuable opinion.

    Thanks in advance.

The real world differences are too small to notice during any usage, as shown in the Hardwareheaven review. (unless you are using a stopwatch or benchmark software)

Buy the drive that you feel comfortable with. I would buy the cheaper one because I'm comfortable with both Crucial and Intel.

Same here. At the time I bought my C400, the Intel was over $150 more. Same nand, same controller, just some tweaks to optimize what each company believes will do best overall, but for what you will be doing, you wouldn't notice a difference at all.

To answer your second question, those speeds can only be achieved if you transfer to another drive with capability to read/write as fast as the first ssd, and only through another sata III interface. If your just going to a spinner external, you'll only transfer as fast as the spinner can write/read.

Theoretically 34nm NAND should last longer than 25nm NAND (5000 vs. 3000 write cycles). The firmware is different and will also make a difference. In that regard Intel 510 isn't doing very well so far on Newegg. There are a lot more failures reported than normal. Crucial M4 doesn't have enough reviews yet.

Made my decision finally: Crucial M4 128GB. I'll be buying it next week. :)
