I really need you guys to rattle your brains on this one.
Help plz!
Ok, so I have a dead laptop GPU![]()
This is what I am thinking of doing:
Cut the BGA IC Chip from my 7900 GS
And re-ball a 7900 GTX or 7950 GTX BGA IC Chip onto the main GPU board.
Is this even possible??
Here's the spex:
Comparison of Nvidia graphics processing units - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Differences:
Memory (MiB)
Core Clock
Memory Clock
Config Core
Fillrates
Bandwidth
TDP
TDP is Watts, and they require different watts. So is this the simplest way to answer my question? That they need different Watts, and thus will be underpowered??
Thanx a lot for any input.

The 7950 gtx wouldn't work for sure since it's a different chip size and I don't think the 7900 gtx would have the same solder spots for a proper connection. That's just my 0.02 though since I haven't worked with anything that old in a while. If you could I would upgrade to an 8 series or newer card just to enjoy flash acceleration

Problem is, can't even get the 8 series..
I'm thinking I'll have to get the same IC Chip type..
Thanks for the 0.02! -
Someone did a similar approach as you intend to: But heat and BIOS issues are of concern.

Hey, cool man.
Thanks for the link!
Sounds like fun. I guess I can investigate some more on the compatibilities...
Only a few could answer this... GPU "modding"..
