How hot do laptops normally get?

my laptop is warm, not tooo hot but pretty warm. I even have it on a laptop cooler....

Or am I just not used to laptops? I'm used to cold steel of a desktop keyboard...

I'm guessing this is your first laptop. They get warm and some get hot. Consider how much less space they have compared to desktops to deal with heat and everything else.

Of course, some notebooks cool themselves much better than others.

Moving this over to the hardware forum...

The Alienware m5750 is known to get a bit warm. I would suggest picking up a cooling pad for it, that will help more than anything.
I have not heard of any overheating issues with the m5750 though, so that's a good thing.

Well it has something to do with video cards :p, since alot of the heat does come from the video card...

Chaz: Thats entirely the question, I have a cooling pad for it, it helped alot, but it's still pretty warm. Should it still be pretty/kinda warm?

Are all laptops/some laptops warm/hot? Is it just mine? That was the question... Thanks for your help.

Download NHC and install it, let us know what your temperatures are:

I didn't see that you had a cooler - good that you do. It helped the Alienware m5550 I used noticeably.

"hot" and "warm" are relative terms. the only way to know if your computer is operating within normal temps is to download one of the freeware apps available that will monitor the temps for your cpu, gpu, ram, hd. only then can you know if things are ok or if there is a problem.

You may also want to read through the cooling guide. It's a good read.

I have the laptop cooler on much more balanced now...

Perfectly in the center of the device.

    It's now far cooler.

I downloaded NCH, and now my computer is driving me crazy.

My multiplier is switching from 6-12 almost all the time, for no apparent reason. I also had my computer temps rise up alot when for no appartent reason my cpu was stuck at a 50% workload. I had to uninstall the NHC program and turn my computer off.

Prior to installing the NCH program, my computer would virtually always be at 1995mhz when pluggin in, and 997 when unplugged.

Now, it is always at 997 unless I really work it. I know this is the dynamic switching, but I liked it how it was before.

Even when I switch it to "max performance" in the NHC it stays at 997 mhz (but it says it is at 1.1875 volts oddly enough) until I do something that requires cpu, like superpi. CPUZ states it is at 1995mhz though.

I also tried uninstalling NHC, and it didn't seem to uninstall properly either time (I tried a couple times).

How can I restore my computer to the settings it had before I installed NHC?

    Thanks!
