Two of the better budget deals on BF offer laptops with that CPU. I am mainly interested in viewing HD feeds over the internet. My 3 year old C360 1.4 GHZ with XP freezes up a lot with the new HD feeds. Will the 2.2 GHZ with 3 RAM be sufficient? Thanx.

Link to the deals? Price? Try first looking for another CPU model at the same price. I don't write down Celeron, but it would be easier for upgrading purpose to go with other CPU versions.

    cheers ...

if you were getting a new laptop i'd just get a pentium dual core rather than a single core one

I hate it when someone asks a question and nobody answers it. To answer the OP question if it can play a hd files yes it can, its basically a 2.2 ghz single core C2D.

yea a 2.2 can play it, but expect CPU utilization to be very high. it will be more worth your while hunting around for a pentium dual core bargain

Thanx; I purchased a Compaq Q61 with a Athlon x2 on cyber Monday from HP after reviewing comments, same price as the 900. Should be here any day.

Much better deal than a Celeron 900 + Intel gl40 based GMA 4500.
Just remember to get ATI Catalyst 9.11 0r higher and Adobe Flash 10.1 to enjoy HD decoding in the gpu.
And try getting a Media player that supports gpu offloading like Splash Media Player or K-Lite codec pack with MPC - Home Cinema.
(Splash Media Player is the easiest to get running properly, but it lacks some audio codecs, but it should be fixed once they get the program running properly.)

Ok, updating finally the CQ61Z has arrived. Two weeks later than expected. Works fine on HD videos from the net no freeze-ups as with my older Celeron. My main dislike so far is the lack of volume buttons, changes have to be done from the toolbar. Too quiet, headphones are mandatory.

Celeron 900 is one of the only Intel CPUs I would avoid.

Get the T3000 instead. That's basically a Pentium Dual Core with 1MB cache.

Edit: oops just noticed you already got it. Excuse me.

Yes AMD Athlon X2, my first experience with AMD. Works fine, little heat and battery usage is not a problem for me. Single core celeron just does not seem capable of handling HD.

Just as a reminder, its called AMD Athlon II M300 or M320 (45nm) and not the older 65nm AMD Athlon x2 which runs much hotter. xD

And im glad you finally got it. :)
Tried the Adobe Flash 10.1 beta 2 with ATI Catalyst 9.12 (Must be modded with ATI Mobility Modder)
Should improve YouTube and other flash content in HD if the cpu struggles.

The heat and battery problem can easily be solved by undervolting... search for the undervolting guide in the forum... u can use RM clock to undervolt...although it is done with intel systems ,it can also be done with AMD ones...

Runs much cooler than my older celeron. The only heat noticeable is out the vent.

Had a volume issue, very low, but this was corrected by reinstalling the audio driver. Volume buttons on the older models was superior.
