I'm currently considering the XPS M1330 as a mobile laptop for university next year, but I also hope to output the standard resolution 1280x800 laptop screen on a 1400x900 monitor for desk use. Would there be any significant blurring or pixellation?

The blurring will most likely be noticeable. LCD's really don't like being run at non-native resolutions.

Uhh, why don't u just output 1440*900 on the 1440*900 external monitor?

You know that the laptop LCD's native resolution has nothing to do with the max output of your videocard right?

So just cuz u have a wxga LCD doesn't mean that that's the max that your video card can display on an external monitor. I have a crappy Acer with a 1280*800 LCD and when connected to my 24" Dell LCD it displays at 1900*1200.

As adinu stated, the resolution of your laptop display has no influence on the external monitor.

I agree that native has nothing to do with external - I have a 3yr old Vaio FS-550 w/onboard Intel graphics, 1280X786 res and it ports out to my HP 22" 1680x1050 just fine - actually, almost excellent. I was quite surprised.

Thanks guys... I wasn't aware you could exceed the laptop display's native resolution.
