Hey guys, I have an Asus N50, with a T5800 CPU in it. I tried to overclock using SetFSB. Every PLL I tried gives me a "PLL byte error," except for the ICS9LPR604AGLF PLL. That one detected the correct settings, and it didn't give me any errors. I tried to overclock, by moving the top FSB slider, but as soon as I push the "Set FSB" button, the slider goes back to what it was before. A friend of mine suggested that the PLL is probably locked.

So is there any way to unlock it, or is there any other way to overclock the CPU? 2GHz is not cutting it, and I don't have enough money to shell out 200+ dollars for a faster CPU.

    System specs:

    Asus N50
    Core 2 Duo T5800
    Intel PM45 chipset
    Nvidia 9650m GT
    4GB DDR2-800 RAM
    Seagate Momentus 250GB 5400RPM

Generally, the PLL is contained on the laptop's motherboard, not the CPU itself.

Check this post. If TME mode is enabled, then you may just have to hardwire the PLL to overcome it as discussed in this link.

Nando, what do I have to look at to see if TME is enabled? here's the SetFSB diagnosis Window:

Now it is important that you are in fact using the correct PLL for your system. At the very least confirm it's from the same manufacturer family, eg: ICS xxxxxx. Can confirm this by looking for a chip with a timing crystal near it, usually close to the CPU. You might be lucky to see it if you just pull off the keyboard, or user accessible covers on the back of the system, or have pics of the systemboard and can view it

OK, assuming the control registers for your PLL are the same as for the 9LPRS355 PLL, datasheet here, then your control register 09, bit 6 tells us if TME is enabled. In your case it is 86h = 10000110 . Bit 6=0 so TME is not enabled.

So then, based on assumptions above, overclocking is enabled, however I believe you likely don't have the correct PLL identified and it just so happens that the tested PLL gives some semblance of a working result.

I've taken pictures of the laptop with the cover off a few months ago. I don't think I see it on the picture, but here's the link to it, if you think you could find it.

Poo. Other side as in the bit of the mobo that's covered by the case, or other side as in the entire flipside?
