    Ok, here is the deal.

My friend bough a laptop, I though it was awesome, paid 850 euros for it.

They was advertising for Windows 7, and 64bit. I assumed it had some power since it actually runned on a 64bit instead of 32bit.

Then I noticed, here is the stuff:
    Dual core, 1.3Ghz.
15~ widescreen. (15~ widescreen did not sound like any of those typical mini laptops, so I didn't think it had such a weak processor, I got a 5 year old 15~ widescreen laptop with dual 1.8ghz processor).

    4GB RAM.

Windows 7 64bit. (They probably added 4GB ram to figure out a reason to add 64bit OS).

I have a feeling, that the only reason they added 4GB ram to it, was because it was 64bit, personally, I think its useless to add so much memory usage to a so low processor. I have never passed 1.5GB ram usage on the computer so far.

I can hardly do anything without getting annoyed by the slow processor. My home computer was cheaper, yet considered as a very great gaming case. With PhenomX2 3.1Ghz processor, Radeon HD5850 1GB graphic card and so on...

Back to point, the processor is 1.3Ghz, I was suprised. (The seller left the names, not the specs). [Instead of saying its dual core 1.3Ghz, they said Intel Core 2 duo processor] ~~They might have mentioned SU 7300 so its my mistake for not googling it first~~

First I though, this is amazingly low, I bet I can unlock 2 extra cores from the bios, having quad core 1.3Ghz, that will surely make a big difference, and makes it more understanding for why they added a 64bit Win7 OS instead of a tiny XP with lower ram bricks.

I also noticed they advertised that it is good for media usage, to watch movies and stuff. The screen looks rather cool, looks like a LED. But I can not get any higher screen resolution than HD Ready (1366x768). Meaning it does NOT have full HD support. So fail there as well.

Also the CD rom does NOT have any support for BluRay discs. So if I want to watch it, I have to get it from Warez.

But I havent found anything, perhaps it works to enable quad core, if possible, I would love to get a response here with a link to a guide or something. I haven't found anything.

So then, my next solution, lets overclock it! Not much, if I could overclick my dual 1.3Ghz to 1.6Ghz it would make a difference. I don't want to play any good games on it, I just want to improve the performance slightly.

I found an overclocking program called ATI, but it says it does not work on intel Mobile~ processors.
(Perhaps because they don't recommend it, that it work but not so smart)? I want to know, but I am not sure.

Any help here is highly appreciated! :D

    Edit1:
After some googling, I found a small review, which tells it can be overclocked to 1.7Ghz~
    Full Review/Sources: http://thinklaptops.net/2010/01/asus-ul80vt-review/

But how can I overclock it to 1.7Ghz? What program shall I use? Can I use the bios? Any help is still highly appreciated! :D

sorry, its a Core 2 Duo processor, DUO meaning 2. you won't magically get any more cores by messing with the bios. its an SU type processor, if im not mistaken thats a low voltage CPU meant to extend battery life, and the 1k price tag is probably coz its an ultraportable thin-and-light. Win 7 OS just to make you happy, and the 64bit probably just to make full use of RAM, since RAM is the cheapest way to speed up a computer.

    heres the CPU
    http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=42791

that OCing program is ATI, not Intel. And unless you have an ATI graphics card (such as HD4330), its not meant for your lappy.

recommendation (not to be taken seriously) : go punch the daylights outta that conniving seller :D

you can't "enable quadcore" if it doesn't have the cores in chip.

but while it might be a slower cpu than others, it was sure fast enough for me to watch movies on, develop software on, work on 3d graphics, produce music, rock out for hours as a dj using only my laptop, etc..

cpu speed is not what matters the most for a snappy system.

there are guides on here to show how to overclock processors, but no clue how much they help you.

other than that, yeah, you might have had to read in more detail what the specs of the laptops are / what it's ment to be :)

I have updated main post, it is possible to overclock to 1.7Ghz. But I have never overclocked an Intel computer before, does anybody know of any decent program to overclock it with?

If I can get it to 1.7Ghz, I will be satisfyed. I honestly don't care at all about energy usage. :p As long as the battery can keep going for 1 hour I am satisfied.

and the actual existance of your processor IS for people who care about long batterylife, for mobility and such.

you really should have read what you buy :)

But lets make the best out of it, for my needs. And not the basic purpose of it. :p

sure. just try :) just be a bit more aware next time :)

one thing you could check, is make taskmanager auto run minimized to tray and when ever the system feels slow, look right down if it runs at 50% or 100% cpu usage, meaning one or two cores actually at their limits.

if not (but f.e. your disk light is glowing), it's not the cpu. i first thought my 1.2ghz core2duo was slow sometimes, too. but it happened to be the harddrive in most cases.

First, is this your computer or your friends? ;)

For your needs, you need a different computer; the system does not offer any features that you deem essential. Return it and buy another system.

Although you might fix the speed issue with an over-clocked chip, you still have too many requirements from it that you can't fix either. Worse, you may even damage or totally kill it by doing so, while negating its number one aspect: long battery life.

What you're trying to do is put a square peg in a round hole. You might get it in there - but it is not going to look pretty. ;)

    Cheers!

Yeye stop bullying me, I give up. I did wrong decision. :p But I cant just trash the laptop and buy a new one. I don't feel for delivering it back, because, if I by some chance, actually get the processor up to 1.7Ghz, with all the other pros and few cons with this laptop. I agree it is pretty decent.

Haha, it is my friends. But I speak from his tongue. He is not used to forums.

The article referring to 1.3 to 1.73Ghz overclock is in relation to Asus ULxxVT notebook series which are sold with a turbo33 features (1.3->1.73Ghz overclock). The SU7300 CPU is a 10W TDP CPU sacrificing performance for battery life. Same ULxxVT Asus notebooks giving 12hr battery life.

Software overclocking your system may be possible provided your vendor hasn't TME locked the PLL. See PLL pinmod OC links in my sig for more detail.

Yes, this laptop also gives ridiculously high battery life.

Well, my friend is calling them over phone after these responses. Thank you for replying to this thread so quickly. :D

However, the chance that they will accept us to refund the computer, is very low. They have to be very kind.
