Is this possible/recommended? lol
I'm using an Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600, and I would like to experiment with some overclocking, what software would be my best choice?
Thanks for any help!

It really depends on the motherboard. And no, it's probably not the best idea, especially if you don't know what your doing. What kind of setup are you running?

I know what I'm doing, I've overclocked before, and I just did it to my video cards...
I'm using a Sager NP9261, 4gbs RAM, Vista 64bit...
I can run Crysis on some pretty impressive settings, but I just want to see how far I can go... lol, I monitor temps and whatnot... I used to manually overclock my stuff when I was younger, but now you can just do it through software, so I'm just really curious.
Thanks again! -

I know what I am doing.
I simply require what software to use. I am using Vista 64 bit.
Thank you. -

Oh ya, this site is sure a lot of help... Ugh, I'll just keep googling info.

Give people time, idiot.
You can't expect a good answer instantly. -
whoa ladies, ladies, no fighting eh? No need to call him an idiot, and yes, give people some time to answer.
To be honest, overclocking the Q6600 won't do much, it's already relatively powerful. If you're trying to match up to the Q6700, you're not gonna be able to do that. Remember, clock speed isn't everything. The architecture, FSB, cache size and everything matters too.
You could probably do it, but I don't think you'll see much difference. -

THANK you very much! That's all I needed to know. I have already overclocked my GPU, and I think that's enough as I already have experienced a nice increase in framerates.
If I'm not going to see much improvement in clock speed, then I'm not going to do it... I trust the majority of people on this site... the "majority" being the nice human beings who do not feel it appropriate to call someone an idiot for absolutely no reason... lol
I've been trying to find some software to use, but nothing seems to work. I don't mind as I gladly paid my money for my quad-core.
So, unknowntt, thank you, and craig007, please don't ever open your mouth again, or type anything ever again unless it's constructive. Honestly, I read your post and rolled my eyes and moved on.
Cheers! -
You can't overclock the CPU in a D901C. We have tried and tried. Sorry
You can overclock your GPU, as you already found out. Best of luck. -

I do not have a D901C, I have a D900C, does that make any difference?
-
Version does not matter, the Pheonix Award Bios is locked very hard. Both the D900C and the D901C both suffer from it. -
Eyyyy, how about some rep points Harrison LOL jk jk.
Wu Jen sounds like he's right, abou the Pheonix award bios. Like I said though, even if you could, it probably wouldn't make much difference.
Btw, what's your GPU and what did you overclock it to? Just wondering. -

I've got two SLI-linked nVidia GeForce 8700M Gts (512mb each)
I've overclocked the core to 770 Mhz and the memory to 970 Mhz.
I can play Crysis at 1024x768 with nearly all the settings on high. Shadows and Shaders on high with volumetric lighting and gameplay effects on very high make for a very enjoyable Crysis experience, lol.
Also, I can keep the temp down at about 140F due to the Fn+1 function that sets my 4 dedicated cooling fans to max... It's been a long long while since I have had a really good computer. A LONG time. -

And ya, how does one acquire rep points?
-
I just gave you some so you could see. Your box is now green, at the bottom between green light and red and white triangle click that thing in the middle on someone and it will give points. To check yourself up towards the top of the page it says "user CP" click that and see all kinds of fun stuff about yourself.

join and learn.
Basic
Memory speed X cpu mutliper = cpu clock.
Mostly likely there is a mutliper lock so you are force to raise memory speed.
Also In your bios. When you mess with memory speed you mess with FSB.
Memory speed X FSB mutliper = FSb Clock.
So have that aware.
You can use ratio's on your memory so that it can run at 3/5 or half.
I sort of confuse is this for a notebook? Because I thought there was no quad for notebook.
If desktop ask away I can assist as much as possiable.
Been overclocking everything.
