I've heard that it was a big no-go to overclock i7 processors. Is it safe to do it in an ASUS G53Jw-A1?

no its safe to overclock the i7... as long as you do it step by step... you have to do FSB overclock.. you could probably do it safely to 2GHz.. beyond that , will be problem... also look at temps.. keep the CPU under 85C... you'll need the PLL for G73 i think.. its not free... you have to use setfsb... you do get a free OC with twin turbo button so you don't need to OC really.. your choice.. read up.. its simple to OC...

Who told you that? Of course it is fine. Even if you aren't able to get it to run any faster than stock, there is still no risk in trying.

go to my guide you can donate to setFSB and that program will allow you to overclock it. There are several threads in my link that tell you got to overclock. If setFSB does not work go to the link for PLL unlocking...i think ts called PLL. It's something that manufactories lock but it can be undone. I forget most of this but my thread gives you links to everything you need and a bunch of other stuff too

again pm me if you need extra help...wont be checking your thread again
