Okay so what's the difference between the 4300U and the 4200U , except :
    • Clockspeed of 200Mhz
    • Intel graphic clock speed of 100Mhz
    • Vt-d, some virtualization techno for IO

I suspect none, so can you overclock a i5 4200U and change the Clock multiplier from 16 to 19 in order to reach the 4300U performance.

Is the Turbo frequency moved also when changing the clock multiplier or does it stay the same (2.6 vs 2.9).

Is it possible to do such an overclock on a Lenovo t440s? Didn't Intel found a way to prevent us from doing that? Can we really get a 4300U-ish for the price of a 4200U? Or is this all just ludicrous?

Thanks for answer, I'm about to cancel my order because of this :p.

Ok, CPU overclock doesn't seem to be possible. And your link confirms it. thanks for info.

And I already ordered the 4300U so I'm good actually! Anyway the shipping date is 25/12, you cannot cancel that...

The only laptop CPU's truly designed for overclocking are the MX/XM series chips, or Mobile Extreme Editions.

Ah, ok - I thought you had ordered the i5-4200U and wanted the i5-4300U. Good choice then; I'd also probably pay the difference to get the 4300U. 97% of the time there won't be a tangible difference however you'll appreciate it being slightly faster in those 3% of instances.

Depends what you do with it. If you run older software or CPU emulation, that .1 ghz can make the difference between 55 FPS and 60FPS, and your game will be noticeably slower if it is not running at 60FPS.

I play PCSX2 on my desktop, if i do 3.0ghz the game floats at around 50fps, i need to do 3.3 ghz to make the game fully playable.

Quad core mobiles can be overclocked...
    +200mhz I7-4700mq
    +400mhz I7-4800mq
    +600mhz I7-4900mq

Using Intel XTU. I haven't seen any dual cores that can be overclocked.
