So, is it possible? Bios hack? Modern analogue of SetFSB? I dunno, but there gotta be a way :)

This cannot be done, to my knowledge. The multipliers on the Core i7-6700HQ are locked.

The really sad story is that Intel went from socket rPGA to BGA. And same time lowered the chips binning and refused to put in an extra 2 bin for their low entry chips like they did before. They went this path, due this crappy low binned chips should be used in <thinnest possible> Apple similar laptops!!

You can undervolt and get a bit of extra speed with turbo, but it's not as good as the 4700mq was for squeezing some extra speed out of it. What are you doing that you need more performance than a stock 6700hq?

Still fully locked @3.1GHz all 4 cores!!

From an article about the coming Ryzen.

“According to the performance we’re seeing we can say that the 7700K will be history, even for gaming.”

And we know 7700K can be clocked +5.0GHz without problems. Then compare the performance vs. fully locked @3.1GHz.

You still have to undervolt to get a solid 3.1ghz on the 10 systems I have messed with with a 6700hq( two were 6820HQ), including my own, the only thing I did was offer a option for getting some extra performance. I don't know anybody that easily achieved 5ghz stable on a 7700k most were either delids or radical cooling solutions so how relevant that statement is idk. At the same time I don't see 6700HQ's paired with gpus where running at 3.1-3.4ghz is going to be a huge hindrance gaming wise. Most of the systems with 1080's and 4k displays tend to have better ( sometimes K chips) running in that. All I wanted to know was what he was doing to want the extra speed. I usually run my chip limited to no turbo and see a whopping 4-5 FPS dip in my games so I lose 800mhz on average and only miss out on 5 FPS. Link for the zen article? It's looking like a good architecture but I am hearing the opposite on overclocking and looking at the chips that are competing with the 7700k in pricing (1700 and 1600x) the 7700k will still have better gaming performance out of the box (much higher clocks coupled with a better IPC).

I'm okay with 6700hq, I just would like to know everything about my laptop cause i rarely buy things, and this lappy will be with me for 4-5years (like my previous Lenovo y580).

And, well, I'm a fan of different emulators, like PCem ( https://pcem-emulator.co.uk) and this thing likes high clock.

Do an undervolting instead if you want to prolong the longevity of the battery life and sames goes with hardware.

It's okay, I already found a value where throttling not happening. So it's stable 3100mhz

Almost all firmware in laptops is fully secured locked down. And for those who have the options open in firmware, wouldn't higher blck like this be a stable settings. For the records... 700cb isn't more than a wimpy 1cb higher than what I got with my cpu down clocked to 6700hq clock speed with default bclk. Wasted time and resources. Rather remove bloat who running in the background!!

    Okay lets check your statement:

    1. It is correct almost all manufacturers bios firmware are locked down but is not imposible to unlock them so is part of the game of overclocking

    2. Higher Blck is achievable a give you an edge but for sure overclocking is a hobby so time consuming is part of the fun

    3. Cinebench R15 "worldwide" record right now at http://hwbot.org for this specific CPU i7 6700HQ is 699cb correct so 700cb beat as you said for wimpy 1cb but will the fastest worldwide recorded Cinebench R15 bench with a i7 6700HQ it did not matter is 0.5 or 0.01 thats why started my post that will give you an edge and is possible but no perfect overclock

    4. Wasted time and resource is what always hear from the people that hate overclocking but always attracted to it. Like I said overclocking is a hobby is just to have a fun and snappy PC

I have benched 6700hq BGA clock speed Aka Down clocking, not only overclock for points on Hwbot.org. Still, nobody have manage beat my BGA Wprime scores as well if you have looked into Hwbot.org for 6700hq Although I don't do the big job to make it. As I said... Perhaps people should try to get their processors to work as intended stock before they try something else. Or remove bloat as stated in my post.

Edit. For the records ... I've posted a lot about overclocking + benchmark scores that are too low vs. their default - OC'd clock speed on (BGA) processors. This is a recurring theme. So please don't talk about hate for overclocking when people give good advices.

    1. Lower than normal
    2. Lower than normal
    3. Lower than normal
    4. Lower than normal
    5. Lower than normal
    6. Lower than normal
    7. Lower than normal
    8. Lower than normal
And you will find a lot more from my posting if you search it up.

I've also helped others who want push their BGA score higher up - But some dont follow up afterwards when the heats come up - I even show them how they shall do it
