Hey everyone, I have the new 4810mq at 3.8ghz turbo.
I used xtu to overclock it to 4.2ghz. When idling, it runs between 4-4.2ghz. Yet when I do a stress test or video editing, it drops down to 3.5ghz, which would be the stock clock. Why is this happening. Shouldn't it be boosting up under a full load, not downclocking?
I have an amazing cooling system with copper upgrades, IC Diamond compound paste, new sager with cpu dedicated fan, plus a custom build laptop cooling. the highest my temps ever get under full load after a 30 min stress test is to about 67c degrees.
what's going on? It should be running around 4.0ghz at all 4 cores....
thanks

Did you increase the power limit? It could be throttling due to exceeding TDP.

Probably need to increase both current and TDP limit. Watch the temps like a hawk if you increase the TDP, 4 GHz on all 4 cores is no joke when it comes to heat.
-
how do i do that in XTU?

Hitting limits as already posted. Increase the limits and try undervolting the processor to give a bit more headroom. Your adjusting CPU settings so whether clevo or AW the principle is the same.

Why the hell you want overclock a top i7 CPU? It is already way too much for everything, therefore I do the opposite, underclocking and crazy undervolting. The laptop getting more and more comfortable...

Mainly benchmarking I guess, and also a bit of "because I can" on the side.

i have the same cpu and it's doing the same thing...and people think its from heat..my temps stay under 65 overclocked..so no need to undervolt it..its not cpu or power limit throttling..its something else which im not sure what..still trying to figure it out...i had an i7 4700hq before and when i overclock it would only throttle when temps reach 90...so then i undervolted it by -75 and that got rid of my problem.. this cpu is not temp throttling tho..at 65c...if u find out how to fix the problem let me know too! btw i have a Sager NP8278-S

what should my power settings be?
Overclocking i7-4810mq help?
