So now that my laptop is 2 years old, I'm feeling the hurt on a few games that are more CPU intensive. Stupidly went with a 17" screen over the 15" model and really wish I'd spent that extra money for the size upgrade on getting a slightly faster CPU.

I've never overclocked anything before and was wondering if it was possible to overclock my CPU to improve performance on a few titles (most notably Shogun 2 and Saints Row: The Third). It's quite frustrating because, in a lot of titles, I'm clearly about 10-20% CPU performance away from a constant 30FPS (graphical setting changes don't do anything so I can only assume I'm CPU limited). Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have no idea what I'm doing!

EDIT: Would getting ThrottleStop be a worthwhile download or is that not going to help in my scenario?

You'll need a program like SetFSB to overclock your CPU. I'd take a look at the clevo forums, someone probably already did it.

Please let us know what you achieve! I have an i7 740QM which is just a slightly faster version of yours. Runs like toast though!

Thanks, I'll check it out! Never done anything like this before so was hoping to come across someone with a similar build on these forums who'd attempted the same thing but you're probably right in suggesting that I'd have better luck on the clevo forums!
