Hi I want to place my order for a P150SM-A from AL in Aus today. I am having some difficulty deciding the configuration of the SSD/HDD
1. 256GB Plextor M5 or 250GB Samsung EVO as primary OS
2. 128GB Samsung EVO M/sata as primary OS and 1TB 7200rpm drive for data
Option 2 is cheaper than Option 1 by about $100.
If I go option 2, I am concerned about battery life the mechanical drive will consume (and the added weight!). Would it be possible to put that hdd into a low power state or turn it off whilst it is not in use or not needed? It will function as a backup drive.
Many thanks for your assistance in advance

Intel Rapid Storage technology which I think comes standard with i gen processors I think. Direct quote from their help menu: Manage the power usage of your SATA devices during idle time when there is no I/O activity or when devices are absent or unused. This essentially turns of your secondary drive when not being used therefore maximising battery life and disk life possibly. My laptop has the 250 GB 840 PRO while secondary has 750 7200 RPM HDD. It depends on your usage. I keep my music and everything else on my secondary and games and programs on the primary. I would recommend the second option since it suits me and cheaper as well. If I helped, please hit the rep star button the left lower corner ^_^
