So I’ve decided to upgrade my Clevo P170EM from the 7970m to a gtx 970m but I can’t find any reliable sources whether or not it’ll just be plug and play regarding bios and drivers, and since I can’t find the prema bios online I thought I’d ask here.

The card I’ve bought is a clevo card which I assume means I don’t have to mess around with the vbios, but is the prema mod bios actually needed or do I just need the latest official bios from clevo? And do I still need to edit the .inf file during driver installation?

I’m a bit of a newcomer to this kind of stuff so any help is greatly appreciated!

There shouldn't be any need for a vBIOS flash but if you find that you have no fan support then you'll have to flash one. Since it's a Clevo in a Clevo then you should be OK. I put a Clevo 970M in an Alienware and the GPU fan wouldn't work until I found a vBIOS that it liked.
Yeah, I think you'll have to mod the .inf. It's actually pretty easy if you have a decent guide.

Yeah the .inf mod seems pretty straightforward, but I still don’t know whether or not the stock bios will like it. I’ve read some people have problems getting the card to even show up in device manager.

And if that’s the case then then I’ll be completely stuck since the prema bios website has had all of it’s content removed.

Stock bios is fine. You just need to do a .inf mod.
