    Hello,

I'm wanting to get a new CPU for my P-6860fx. I see alot of threads on the gateway forum but I'm just a little unsure how i would fit my CPU with the spec.
Everyone seems to be upgrading to the t9300 (socket P) but its just a little foggy with what CPU's I can upgrade to. I've been using the wiki list to view them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors

Whats the deal with chipsets? does the watt have to be the same, what about FSB and volts?

    for example t9400?

    check out this thread

im going to sell a p8700 if you wanted a lower TDP (watts)
lower watts is always better, you cant go too low. 25 watts means you have a lot more room for overclocking and easy cooling, as opposed to 35

fsb has to be the same, however. i dont know if all socket P have 1066mhz. if your ram is ddr3 than it is.
volts are just set by the bios or something...

Your FSB is limited to 800MHz I'm afraid.

I had a P-6831FX and the best processor for the price that I could find for it (that was not Core 2 Extreme) was the T9500 (2.6 GHz). The T9300 is also good, considering it's only 0.1 GHz slower.

The P-series Core 2 Duo CPUs will not work, neither will the T9600 or other FSB1066 processors.

    Fastest = T9500 ~ $260 or x7800/7900/9000

    Best Value - T9300 ~ $200

    Best bang for the buck = T9300 ~ $130

I have an x7800 @ 3.0 but it gets quite warm fully loaded even with a notebook cooler. Brother has a T9300 and is MUCH cooler even w/out a cooler. I'd recommend a cooler regardless but that's a different topic.

    Good luck

you are going to love not being on the stock t5550. no cpu's with a fsb of 1066mhz will work with the 6860 so your choices are t8300, t9300, t9500, x7800, x7900. and the x9000.

My vote goes towards the T9300, personally. It certainly seems to be the value, or bang for buck. The performance isn't too shabby either.

You'll most likely notice that if your P6860FX already runs warm, then it will get quite hot with an extreme edition processor, due to the higher power consumption, etc.

yeah the x7800 and x7900 will get warm because they are 65nm but my x9000 runs quite cool. it idles around 30c and 47c max. i use icd 7 and no cooler.

T9300 is your best bet... it way cheaper than X9000(T9300 is about $200 and X9000 is about $500) and runs way cooler and only 0.3GHz Slower(Somemore X9000 cannot be overclocked in your notebook so its a waste IMO in buying it )... It will be a big improvement anyways...

hello all ...first of all great post !! I have been looking for advice on my p-6860fx for about a month , thanks !

i really want to get a t9300/t9500 chip for my laptop and want to know other than ebay how to get one under 400.00 ? i noticed there are some on there from taiwain and im leary about those with that kind of money.

I also noticed that some of the t9500 are the same price as the t9300.would it be smarter to just go with the t9500 for the same money ?

just wanna keep the games rockin and need a new cpu to keep things cool .

thanks for the help all ...this forum rocks !

Yeah, if they cost the same, then the T9500 is the obvious choice. I had the chance to get a T9500 for $3 more than the T9300 on ewiz and I bought it.

the seller will write if he is selling ES and if he purposely sells u ES when he say's OEM , u can get a refund... u can use CPU-Z to check whether you have an ES or OEM when u install the T9500...
