I dont want to beat a dead horse, I just wanted to share my experience after doing a processor upgrade in my Gateway FX 7805.
I purchased the X9100 E0 Stepping QC ES from shirleyfu. Changing the processor was easy, but I did decided to add ICD7 to my GPU and its memory modules. That required removing the motherboard, but overall was easy. It did not require anything special. I did not even uninstall the original processor drivers. It updated itself automatically and recognized the processor to its fullest at 3.06ghz in the bios.
On 3D Performance Mark, I was able to gain in every test. The best gain was in the 3D-COMPLEX test. My scores went from 62fps to 97fps.
The temps changed as well. Originally the CPU idle temp was 39c and loaded at 81c. GPU idle temp was 47C and loaded at 95C. Now the temps are CPU at idle 29C, loaded at 71C. GPU is at 46C idle and 82C loaded. I was concerned that the new processor would raise my temps, but it did not. Im not sure why they dropped, maybe the good de-dusting and the ICD7?
I did a but load of research before I upgraded and did not find any difinitive answers so I though I would post my results for this dying gaming laptop.

Great to hear. Your unit must come with a pretty decent cooling system to be able to handle the X9100 TDP. My T500 has a decent cooling system but probably not as good as yours. My CPU (T9900) on load reaches 91C/85C and the CPU reaches 92C under intense gaming with am ambient temp of 28C. I too have also gained some improvements on benchmarks and gaming. I just wish my cooling was a bit better to enable overclocking ability to the GPU as its the clear bottleneck. But that is to be expected when using a 2008 laptop in 2011.

Yeah the cooling components are pretty stout. Lots of copper. They say the C0 stepping X9100 runs much hotter, but I havent been able to compare with anyone. If I remember, Ill load up a pic of the benchmark screen. Im pretty happy with the ICD7, i didnt have to heat the tube or anything.

Here are those images I said I would upload. These are benchmark comparisons, idle temps, and stress temps. BTW all temps are recored on a glass table in a room with temp control set at 68F

Ohh thats why your temps are pretty decent. Your room is 68F. Mine was tested at 82.5F.
I tested mine playing HoN.
Using speedfan and GPU-Z. -
i find that orthos doesnt heat my hardware enough compared to gaming with HoN.

Yeah, gaming makes it a little hotter and is how I got it to 71C. My wife is pregnant so we keep the house cool.
