so, im trying to make some decisions... clearly, the later and greater series processors are better, but how much..
how much does increased bus speed affect performance? as opposed to increased cache?
obviously, id like the 1066 bus in the 8400/9400, but will it be noticeably faster/cooler/less draining than the 8300/9300?
at the same time, what about the 3MB cache vs 6MB cache?
if you had to sacrifice one or the other, which would it be??
thanks? any clear benchmark comparisons?
im going to be doing some pretty heavy music graphics and video production
/editing , but not much gaming..
many thanks in advance ! mD

also, im not entirely clear on the 'Centrino 2' label... the P8400 / T9400 are the Centrino 2s, right?
the 8300/9300 are not?

The T9300 is not.
The main difference between the Centrino and Centrino 2's are the 2's can use memory higher than 667MHz. Also mixed with more battery life. Possibly less heat.
Although, in tests, faster memory barely makes any difference in real performance.
So, then it mainly just comes down to the one with a higher clock speed (GHz.) and higher Cashe.
The P8300, P8400, and T9400 are all Centrino 2.
There is no noticable difference between the P8300 and P8400
There is a slight difference between T9300 and T9400. in Ghz. and Cashe.
For your needs, i would get a T9300 or T9400. -
The P8400 is a 25W tdp processor, compared to the others, which are 35W. It should provide the longest battery life.
To be honest, the performance difference between the four will be somewhat minimal.
P8400 = weakest, followed by T8300, T9300 and T9400.
P8400 and T9400 are Centrino 2. The other 2 are not. -
