    i have a sony vaio notebook that has a t6400 2.0ghz cpu and i want to upgrade to the p8600 2.4ghz cpu. is the p8600 compatible with my t6400 mobo?

    I don't think it is... I think you want the 1st gen Penryns like the T8300 or T9300. Somebody confirm this

    Use CPUz and report what motherboard you are using. If you have PM/GM45 then it will be upgradeable, if not then you can't upgrade.

    Anyways the T6400 is compatible with the Montevina chipsets and is current offered in many Montevina based notebooks. The P8600 should work fine.

    Laptopgun is confused by the low number and its low because of it being a pentium.
