I currently have a Dell E5500 with a P8700 @ 2.53GHz, 4GB RAM, GMA4500MHD, WXGA+ display, and a 64GB SSD. Pretty powerful for its age.
I may soon have a motherboard with a HM65 chipset, i5-2450m, HD3000 graphics, then obviously other stuff can then be added.
Will there be any noticeable difference with the SSD? All I do is word processing and 1080p netflix which my current rig handles pretty well. Would be nice to play some Minecraft but I doubt the HD3000 graphics can do it at 1080p.
Not sure whether or not I should hang onto that motherboard or just sell it and put the money towards an upgrade later on.
Cheers

You're not thinking to put the new motherboard into the old notebook? (I'm sure that nothing would fit; i.e. external connectors, screw locations, etc.).
I think the chipset of the E5500 supports only SATA2, so if the SSD is SATA3 capable you should see a good jump in storage performance (not to mention the more than double cpu advantage the i5 has over the P8700).
Assuming, of course, that this MB can fit and be used in the old chassis. -

Nah the idea was to sell my E5500 and use the money to buy a Toshiba L730 in need of a new motherboard.
That's true as well. Is the CPU upgrade really that much of a difference? That's pretty impressive.
Reckon Minecraft might run at a good framerate at 1080p? (at the moment my E5500 can run it but at a very sporadic 15~45fps.) -

Don't quote me; but I think Minecraft should be fine with a semi modern gpu (even if it is not a discrete solution).

The 2450m scores 51% higher than the P8700 in 3Dmark06 CPU benchmark, which is a very common comparison chart.
I would consider that pretty substancial, if not a massive boost.
